Comment to win on Thursday Thirteens

Cover_MarkedinMexicoOn to round two of thirteen items of note for my novel, Marked in Mexico, and don’t forget to comment for a chance to win an ebook.

1. The primary setting for the story is jungle area of the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico.

2. The heroine, Jessica, is a lawyer in much need of a little rest and relaxation with her best friend, and the daughter of a powerful U.S. Senator.

3. The hero, Jack, is a mountain climbing guide from Colorado on vacation with his buddies and a former Army Ranger.

4. The Protagonists are a group of terrorist and drug dealers who hope to use hostages to negotiate the release of a colleague from a Texas prison.

5. The main action and adventure begins at the popular and heavily visited Mayan Ruins of Chichén Itzá,  specifically at the Sacrificial Well.

6. Chichén Itzá is one of the best know Mayan sites and was the most important city in the area from the 10th to the 12th centuries.

7. Malaria is a parasite spread by mosquitoes. It is not currently prevalent in Mexico, but can still be found in remote jungle areas.

8. I love visiting Mayan ruins whenever I get a chance. Marked in Mexico is my second novel where I incorporated a Mayan site. Deadly Ruins is set at Cobá.

9. Smoke grenades are a canister-type grenade used as a signaling device, target or landing zone marker, or as a diversion. Normally considered non-lethal, smoke grenades may cause death if used incorrectly.

10. Jessica’s father is a long-time Senator from Texas and a widower.

11. Jack has suffered a lifetime of loss, making it difficult to let Jessica inside his defenses.

12. The Lacandon people are of Mayan ancestry and they live in the jungles of the Mexican state of Chiapas on the Mexican side of the Usumacinta River and its tributaries. The Lacandon, almost extinct in 1943, are one of the most isolated and culturally conservative of Mexico’s native peoples.

13. The ultimate goal for the characters: Escape, elude, and survive.

When paradise turns deadly, flee into the jungle and fight for your life. Stop back later for the inside scoop on my futuristic adventure novel, Desperate Dreams.
