The Governess Swap
- Book 1: The Lady Becomes a Governess
THE LADY BECOMES A GOVERNESS
The Governess Swap, Book 1
Mass Market Paperback
Rating: 4 Cups
Lady Rebecca Pierce is too rebellious for her half-brother. He is tired of her continuing refusal to marry. She is being forced into marriage with poverty as the alternative.
Lord Brookmore is uneasy with his new role as a Viscount and guardian to two little girls. He was groomed to be a soldier, not a lord.
While on her way to a forced marriage, Lady Rebecca meets Claire, a governess who looks remarkably like her. Knowing that her future is bleak, she asks Claire to temporarily switch places with her for the duration of their voyage from Ireland to England. Fate intervenes in the form of a shipwreck. With Claire presumed dead, Lady Rebecca takes her place as governess to Lord Brookmore’s two nieces.
This is a nice twist on the classic Regency Romance. Usually the governess becomes a lady; here the reverse happens. Rebecca knows nothing about being a governess, but she is exactly what the two little girls and their uncle need. All goes well until the arrival of Brookmore’s fiancée and Claire’s former employer; the latter murderously unhinged and the former petty and spoiled, a very dangerous combination. After all was resolved to the reader’s satisfaction, the presumed dead Claire is found to be alive as Lady Rebecca and I cannot wait to read her story.
