Mai-Mai Collins is a Fae who has led a fairly blessed life, considering the beginning. She and her Gremlin lover Ry-Ry are living a happy life right up until she finds a man who accused her of assault dead on her doorstep.
All would have been well until a prejudice cop, determined to find her guilty, triggers the Gea that would ensure paranormal justice if the humans do not find the real killer. Mai-mai is now bound by magic to find the killer, and the compulsion is hell on her life.
The last time the Gea was activated to ensure paranormal justice, it ended in disaster with the deaths of not only the human guilty of the crime, but all the prejudiced ones who were determined to make the paranormal ones suffer for a crime they did not commit. Mai-mai wants her life back and the only way for that to happen is to find out the real killer – but at what cost for her and those around her?
Ms. Burke paints a vivid picture of a human and paranormal world and the fine line one will tow to ensure justice for crimes which include both humans and paranormal. I like the characters because they were both strong and there was a mystery about their backgrounds which kept the reader in the book just to discover the why and who. It was a mystery to the reader from the very beginning, and I fought myself from going to the last page to see what happens. Ms. Burke provides a strong mystery story with just enough of the paranormal romance to satisfy any reader.
