Sophie Campbell is the daughter of an aristocrat and an opera singer. Upon their deaths, she was sent to a grandfather who wanted nothing to do with her. He sent her to school and cut her off at the age of eighteen. She now makes her living as a gambler at Vega’s, hoping to make enough to retire and perhaps marry.

Jack Lindeville, Duke of Ware, hates gambling and is devoted to his responsibilities as a duke. His brother, on the other hand, is determined to lose as much of the family’s fortune as he can.

In an effort to prevent his younger brother from bankrupting himself, Jack plays a reckless game of Hazard with Sophie Campbell. If she wins, she gets a large sum of money, but if he does, he wants a week with Sophie. Jack soon realizes that a week will never be enough.

This author takes a fairly typical situation of a nobleman falling in love with an unsuitable woman and makes it fresh again. Sophie and Jack are both appealing characters with very human flaws. They have undoubted chemistry from the beginning, and I really enjoyed reading about how they overcame all of their obstacles to find their happy ending. I look forward to reading the next installment of the series.
