Sweet Contemporary Romance
Rating: 4 Cups
Kari is 24, looks younger, and feels much older. The tiny dynamo is about to open her first business and is both excited and terrified.
Colin is a disabled veteran who is trying to ease himself back into the work force. He has suffered a lot and not all of his wounds are on the surface.
Kari and her sister are opening a cat café in their home town. Kari is in charge of the business aspect and her sister is the baker. Reliable staff are essential, and when Colin applies for a job, Kari finds out in the interview that he might be just who she is looking for; for her business and for her sister. As she gets to know her new baker, she sees him more as a match for herself.
This is exactly as described; a sweet romance; however, the characters are very real with flaws and strengths and no one is overly sweet. Colin is strong and sexy with a troubled past, and Kari has been so focused on her goals that she has not had time for herself. Add in a mischievous clowder of cats, and you have a very enjoyable novel. This has the makings of a very successful series. I had forgotten how nice it is to read a novel without heavy violence and sex scenes.
