Lavinia Gray is beautiful, witty, fashionable and the toast of London and Paris. She thought she was an heiress, but now needs to marry and marry well.
Parth Sterling is one of the wealthiest men in England and the foster son of the Duke of Lindow. He is an expert at solving almost any problem.
Lavinia is desperate. Her mother has spent all of her inheritance and stolen from her wealthy cousin. She must marry well to keep her mother from being arrested. Parth Sterling thinks that she is a frivolous spendthrift with no care for anything but fashion, but he is the richest man she knows. In a moment of madness she asks him to marry her. He refuses but promises to find her a prince of a husband. He soon finds that no one is good enough for the woman he once rejected.
I love this series. Alaric and North’s stories were wonderful, but I found Parth to be intriguing and was so glad to find his story the next in the series. His rather exotic background, intelligence, and drive to succeed, made him stand out among the Wildes. Lavinia was always more that she appeared, but her self-worth was tied to her beauty and wealth. Now half of that is gone and she is scrambling to save what’s left of her family. Her mother certainly does not deserve her loyalty; her crimes and selfishness predated her addiction, yet Lavinia risks her own happiness to protect her. She and Parth are much better matched than would appear at first glance, and the author tells their story so well I was not able to put the book down until the very end.
