Lady Honora Parker is beautiful, wealthy, and headstrong. She is determined to marry her penniless artist.
Julius Hatcher is one of the most successful financiers in New York. He is very handsome and charming and determined to make his way into Society but not for the obvious reasons.
Nora has been sent to stay with her aunt in New York to avoid a scandal. She was caught in a compromising position by her father and some of his associates. She is determined to get back home to her true love and decides that an entanglement with the most inappropriate man in New York will force her father to call her home. Julian Hatcher is perfect for her purposes. He is scandalous, wealthy, and determined never to marry. In return, she will introduce him into Society so that he can find the three men responsible for his own father’s ruin and suicide.
I really enjoyed this novel. It is set in New York during one of the most interesting eras, the Gilded Age of the late eighteen hundreds. The author does a wonderful job of describing the people and places that made that era so interesting. Her characters fit smoothly into that world, bringing it to life. I found the plot to be engrossing with many layers and unexpected twists and turns, leading to a thoroughly satisfying conclusion.
