May Book Brew Interview””Christine Young
Serious Questions:
1. Why were you inspired to feature the particular profession that one of your main characters is involved in?
Sadie Monroe is an anthropologist. I’ve always been fascinated with this area of study. Sadie, with her colleagues, wants to chart the migration of butterflies down the Rocky Mountains. Her area to research is the Sierra Madre Mountains where she meets Brody McKenna who is an explosives expert. His family mines in the mountains.
2. What other influences or inspirations are behind your writing this book?
My sister’s husband is a world-renowned anthropologist. I received information from him, which I used to help make this book authentic. He gave me insight into the emotional make up of typical anthropologist as well as the way in which they go about their research. While Sweet Sexy Sadie is a paranormal romance and the references to anthropology are not a major component, I wanted the references to be correct.
3. When and why did you decide to become a writer?
I published my first book in 1998 through the Zebra line at Kensington. Kate Duffy was my editor. I started writing in 1992 and joined RWA. I’ve enjoyed many years of writing. Now that I’m retired, I dedicate a majority of my time to improving my craft.
I started writing because I fell in love with historical romances. The first books I wrote were all historical. It was only a few years ago that I branched out to try a contemporary romance, Safari Moon, and then last year I wrote two paranormal romances. I do love those shapeshifters.
Fun Questions:
1. What was your first job?
I was a swim instructor and lifeguard.

I would never be a nurse. I faint at the sight of needles.
3. What did you dream of doing when you were a kid? (Besides writing!)
I wanted to be an oceanographer.
4. Does your significant other or family support and encourage you, just ignore your writing or interfere?
My family has always supported my writing. My husband bought me a computer when he learned I was trying to type my stories on my old college typewriter. (I guess that dates me.)
5. What is your guilty pleasure or secret vice?
I’m easily addicted to computer games.
