Author Interview–Melinda Curtis

May Book Brew Interview””Melinda Curtis

Serious Questions:

1. Why were you inspired to feature the particular profession that one of your main characters is involved in?

I used to work for a winery and I’m fascinated by how winemakers use a balance of art and science to create beauty in the glass

2. What other influences or inspirations are behind your writing this book?

Oh, the usual ““ young millionaires trying to decide what to do next, senior citizens with spunk, twin girls out to set their own fashionista trends.

3. When and why did you decide to become a writer?

I was hoping it would have better pay than dog-walker, but I think dog-walkers have steadier incomes.

4. What author or other person do you consider your biggest inspiration or special mentor?

I’m lucky to call Brenda Novak friend, since before she was first published.  She’s talented, determined, and just as sweet now as she was then.

5. Do you think you could ever co-write with another person or if you do,  what obstacles and difficulties have you encountered in this?

I’ve written a business book with 2 other non-writers.  The challenge was to come to a place that satisfied all our visions. Lesson learned: pad your timeline if you co-write.

Fun Questions:

1. What was your first job?

I took inventory after stores closed for the night (9pm-1am), then dragged myself out of bed for my 7:15 typing class in high school. I lasted 3 months.

2. What career or profession would you never ever consider trying to do?

Surgeon.  I’m fascinated by the body, but I have a tendency to go “Squirrel!” and be distracted.

3. What did you dream of doing when you were a kid? (Besides writing!)

An archeologist.  But then I saw how hot it was where they usually worked (and I’m not much for sharing space with bugs and dirt)

4. Does your significant other or family support and encourage you, just ignore your writing or interfere?

My family is extremely supportive.  I couldn’t meet deadlines without them feeding and watering me.

5. What is your guilty pleasure or secret vice?

Dairy Queen Blizzards. Did you see they just came out with Blizzards in a waffle cone? Just thinking about it makes me want to jump on a treadmill.
