If you’re looking for hot steamy romances, or even dark romance, you’ve come to the right author. Amber Daulton holds nothing back in this stirring tale. She has warnings in case you get too involved in the story and tells it like it is. Not only does she write dramatic and heartwarming tales, but she makes her own covers. Can we say they are HOTT HOTT HOTT?
Amber, the story is so inviting. Who is your hero in real-life?
Rubén is not a man to mess with. To the outside world, he’s a ruthless cartel kingpin who will spill blood to further his goals. That’s the image he presents. Behind closed doors, he’s a different man. Sure, he’s rough around the edges—who wouldn’t be after living the life he has?—but the last thing he wants is to cause unnecessary pain. Even though his father was a bloodthirsty tyrant, Rubén is trying to run his illegal enterprise with as little fighting and bloodshed as possible. Then he finds Drina, the woman he’d loved and lost, at the mercy of his enemies. Saving her and claiming her for himself becomes his end goal. With her, he can finally be himself—a man who wants peace.
Does your hero have a romantic side?
Of course, he does! At first, Rubén was so focused on business that he didn’t have time to romance Drina as she deserved. Once he wised up and took the necessary action to make himself more emotionally available to her, the animosity and sexual tension in their relationship shifted toward compassion and blossomed into love.
When you are at the darkest part of your tale, does it cause you to feel down, or excited?
Excited! I love putting my characters through the wringer and giving them a redemption arc. When their lives are going downhill and everything seems doomed, that’s when I feel the most energetic. Personally, I go through a full range of emotions when writing—everything from happiness to sadness, anger, and frustration. Whatever the characters are feeling, I feel it, too. If I don’t bring myself to tears on a truly upsetting, emotional scene, then the scene needs work.
Who is your ‘sounding board’ to read your work and give their honest opinion about your story?
My husband, Greg. He gets first dibs on reading all my work, usually weeks or months before my critique partners and beta readers get it. Sometimes, we talk for hours about the setting, characterizations, what works and what doesn’t. He talks me down from the ledge when I’m having a bad work day and all I want to do is kill off all my characters and trash the story. He’s my biggest fan.
If you were the heroine, would you fight hard or stand back and let your hero fight for you?
If I were Drina, I’d do my best to stand at my man’s side and fight with him. I believe in equality in a relationship. The only way for love and that relationship to last is if you work together and respect one another.
Have you ever made yourself cry when writing a scene?
Oh, yes. When I cry, I know I’ve written gold.
The location you write your story in, is it somewhere you’ve been before?
Ah, I wish. Traveling is expensive, so I do my own brand of traveling through online research and reading books. I’ve done a ton of research into Mexico for the Lozano Cartel series. I’d love to visit there someday.
Love, love, LOVE, the cover. Did you get to pick out the hero for it or does he resemble the hero in your mind?
I picked out the model for Rubén, and he completely resembles the man I see in my head. My cover artist did a wonderful job, if I do say so myself! Haha! I’m the artist. Besides writing super hot dark romances and steamy romantic suspense novels, I also run Satin Rose Designs, my book cover design company. I’ve been creating my own book covers since 2019 and opened Satin Rose Designs in 2022. It’s a rewarding experience to work with other authors and create a cover they adore.
That is an AWESOME video for your Dark Hearts Aflame, book one in the Lozano Cartel series. When can we expect one for Rubén Lozano and Drina Cabrera in Lost In His Spiderwebs?
Thank you! It was a blast to create the video trailer for Dark Hearts Aflame, but very time-consuming. Unfortunately, for my new book, I haven’t created it yet. Rest assured, though, it’s on my very long list of things to do.
What is your reaction when you type ‘THE END’ on your stories?
I’m relieved that it’s finally over. One project down, a few dozen to go. I’m also filled with anticipation to either start editing it, create the cover, or write the next book. I hate down time, so I’m always busy with multiple projects.
Thank you for the wonderful interview, Fanny, and hosting me on Coffee Time Romance.
