So I decided a while back that I wanted to write a series of fun, quirky little shorts involving vampires. Nothing fancy, nothing too heavy, but some sexy little vignettes about non-sparkling vampire lovers and their paranormal counterparts. And BEHOLD…. The Strange Bedfellows series from Mocha Memoirs. They’re short, sweet treats that are just perfect for snuggling up by the jack o’lantern. The first in the series, “Three to Tango,” is a m/m/f ménage story that introduces the key players. I promise you won’t be disappointed….
“…vampires can be dangerous to your health.”
A truer statement had never been uttered, but when Cali stumbled upon The Oubliette, she began to realize the wisdom in those words. Broken-hearted and bored, Cali’s life had become a string of TV dinners and romance novels. She wondered where her life was going until she
followed the mysterious stranger through the red door and entered a world that few would ever know existed. A world of vampires, werewolves and pleasure beyond imagination. Within the walls of The Oubliette, Cali will embark on a dangerous and sensual journey of discovery that will change her life forever.
EXCERPT:
It had been nearly a month since she’d thrown Gavin out of her life. Such a short time, yet it seemed an eternity. It was true that he’d been an asshole of the highest order, but now that he was gone, Cali felt like something was missing in her life. Despite her girlfriends’ insistence that it was regular sex she was missing, Cali knew that it was something deeper and more sinister: loneliness. Gavin had been a warm body to curl up with at night for the last three years and now there was nothing. She came home each night to a dark house of silence. The monotony of the days’ pattern was driving her mad: go to work, come home to a frozen dinner and some TV, crawl into an empty bed then get up and do it all over again. Sure she’d been out with some friends, spoken to her mother on the phone, browsed a couple of internet dating sites and all those other things that lonely people do, but nothing could shake her out of the depressive dark cloud that seemed to consume her faster every day. Most terrifying of all, she’d begun reading these horrendous romance novels. The ones with brooding, dark heroes and swooning heroines. The ones that seemed like fairy tales from Hell. She’d always sworn she’d never be one of those women that dreamed of a shiny, undead lover to swoop down and take her away from this awful existence. But lately, it was a comfort. Not only was her fantasy lover sexy, but he could also tear Gavin’s heart from his chest and eat it. Literally.
Cali stood there staring at the door, lost in her thoughts for several moments before something moved just out of her line of vision. It was a man, tall and angular, walking down the street with a proud gait. He was dressed in black from head to toe, but he most definitely was not a metal head or goth kid. More like Satan’s lawyer. Upon closer inspection she could see that he wore black trousers, pressed to impossible smoothness, and a crisp black shirt, buttoned all the way to the neck. The dark fabric provided a striking contrast to his nearly luminescent pale skin. His hair was cropped neatly, the longer hair on top worked into a purposeful mess. He turned suddenly, looking off in her direction. It was as if he knew she was watching him. His eyes sparkled unusually in the moonlight and Cali could have sworn that she saw him smile, despite the inky darkness. He stood motionless for a few moments, that phantom smile playing on his lips. It was as if he were beckoning her to come forward. And though she knew it was probably the stupidest thing she’d do all week, Cali was helpless to resist. She began to move towards him, her body tense as she tried to stop. How she avoided being hit by a passing car as she crossed the street in her trace-like state, she’d never know.
“Welcome, little one. Right this way.” His voice was like an oily leather, slipping over her skin to encase her in its warmth.
