Can I tell you that I hate this part of the process? HATE.IT! It’s painful! Really, who cares if that last paragraph was missing three commas or if that last sentence is incomplete? LOL! Okay, at the end of the day, I do!
I can’t begin to guess how many hours upon hours were spent going through the manuscript. Luckily, my editor is someone that I respect and she can voice her opinions without offending me. I got advice from her like; “Kate giggles too much.” or “Describe Kate. “Beautiful’ is too vague.” or “That piece doesn’t really add to the story. I think you should delete it.” Yeah, none of it easy to hear and sometimes difficult to fix.
Turning out the best product possible was my goal from typing the first word until the last. Unfortunately nobody’s perfect, least of all me, and “Fade to Black” has things in its final, published version that I wish I could change.
HAHAHA, Beautiful is too vague. I don’t know why that struck me as funny-maybe in a sympathy cringing laugh way. Yes, I think that’s it. I look back at some of my stuff and think, Man, I wish I could change that. Alas. Perfectionism is hard to live up to. Sounds like you’re doing well with it, however.
Isabel,
Glad I could make you laugh on this fine Thursday. I’m laughing along with you. And yes, it’s the cringing kind.
I don’t know how well I’m living up to things. It seems I’m usually out of control… *sighs*
