Close Encounters with the Night Kind: Marketing Your Book in the 21st Century

What is your business name? Close Encounters with the Night Kind.   What is your title or position within that business?  I am owner and mistress..lol

What genres do you accept?  Do you work with Indie as well as traditionally published authors?  I work with All authors.  My love of books knows no bounds, but I do require that the author gives their characters a HEA.  I believe you can torture them as long as you want, just as long as you give them a Good Ending.

What types or kinds of services do you offer?  Tons!!!  I offer reviews, interviews, giveaways, and guest posts.  I can also devise individual packages for scavenger hunts, blog hops, games, and parties!!  My partner and I are also extending our services to include graphics as well!!

How do you charge for your services (by the individual service, by pre-designed packages, by custom-designed packages, or some other way)?  It all depends on what the consumer is interested in.  I do tailor packages and pricing always depends on the service.

What’s the price range of your services? Free to negaotiable..lol

How long have you been in business?  How many clients have you represented?  I have been blogging for 2 ½ years and designing for well over a year.  I have worked on an individual basis with over 200 different authors, catering to whatever their need is at the moment.

What’s the difference between book promoters and book marketers?  Which are you?  I would consider myself both.  To me book promoters and marketers are basically the same thing, they just use different angels.  If you love a book, you are going to promote it, which in essence will lead to sales of said book.  Book Marketing targets specific audiences with the express purposes of sales.  Both are trying to help the author, but they just go about it different ways.

What information do you need from authors who hire you?  Their tastes.  When your designing, you need to get a feel for your client, this way they walk away happy..lol

Are you a sole proprietor or do you have staff/assistants who help you?  Are you personally involved with every client?  It is just me, but I do have a graphic design partner.  He figures out the odds and ends of things so I can just create”¦lol

Why should authors hire a marketer or publicist?  So they can concentrate on writing.  Authors spend so much time on promo, they end up getting behind on their actual writing.  Hiring someone to do this for you frees up your time.

In your experience, which genre or genres benefit most from the services you provide?  Hmm”¦Paranormal, Sci-fi, Historical, and Erotic Romance genres.

If there is such a thing as an ideal client, what would that author look like, or what traits would s/he exhibit? Enthusiasm and flexibility.  I have a lot of ideas that bounce around in my head and I like to try new things out.  Clients that are willing to dive into a project with me makes my job so much more enjoyable.

Realistically, what kinds of results can authors expect after purchasing your services?  Experience and a broader scope of what your likes and dislikes are.

What questions do you recommend that authors ask when they are considering a particular publicist or marketer? How many clients they are working with at the time and if they are going to be able to give the author the type of attention he/she needs.

What percentage of the bloggers who sign up for your book tours would you say follow through and participate in the individual events?  I would go with 75 to 80 percent.  No blog tour is full proof.  Bloggers are hard-working people, who dedicate their time to share something they love”¦but they do have lives too!!  Some people forget that!!
