This may not be quite fair but I think it is not that esoteric. What is the holiday that specifically celebrates the spirits of the departed? No, it is not Halloween but close… Anyone have an answer?
BTW New Mexico is full of ghosts and stories of restless spirits! One of my favorites in the southwest in general is La Llorona or The Weeping Woman. It is a variation of the phantom or vanishing hitchhiker tale but goes back even further for she was seen by people riding horses or driving teams before the automobile became common. Usually she is looking for or trying to get back to her children but occasionally it is another relative or person involved. She is most often dressed all in white or in black and begs a ride or other assistance and then vanishes very suddenly, leaving an extreme chill behind. You never seem to encounter someone who has actually given her a ride but it’s a friend of a friend or their in laws or someone who is certainly trustworthy and reliable. Who knows or as we say down here, with a shrug, quien sabe?
We’ve still got an hour or so to go until the formal close but feel free to keep posting, commenting and enjoying! I’ll be back in a little bit to wind down but have a few small tasks to do in the meantime.
