Doctor Jordan Scott thought she knew her fiancé, Caesar Santiago better than anyone, until the day she learned the truth about her brother’s death.
At first, Jeremy’s murder had all the markings of a random act of violence. And then Detective Riley Donavan confronts Jordan at the hospital with an incredible story about her Caesar.  Â
Even though Caesar and Jordan’s relationship has been strained, Jordan still can’t believe Caesar could be involved in Jeremy’s death or the Santiago Drug Cartel. After all, Caesar has been honest with her from the start about his family’s criminal activity. And the reasons he left that life behind.
But Detective Donavan believes everything that comes out of Caesar’s mouth is a lie. Including that he’s walked away from the family business. Riley believes Caesar had Jeremy killed to send a message to the rest of his organization.Â
Riley tells Jordan her brother started working with the U. S. Attorney’s office as an informant against Caesar. Jeremy got greedy and began playing both sides against each other by snitching on Caesar to his family in Columbia. If Caesar found out that would explain why Jeremy was eliminated. And why Jordan’s life might be in danger. She’s become a liability Caesar can’t afford.Â
Soon, little things in the past that Jordan had previously dismissed as inconsequential begin to add up to something far more damming against her brother and Caesar. Things like the expensive suits and high tech gadgets she finds hidden away in Jeremy’s room. The fact that Jeremy dropped out of NYU without telling her and as far as she knows, has no income to afford such extravagances. Then there is the barely veiled threat against her life by a stranger on the street.
And then there are the CDs that Caesar has hidden away in a safe in his closet. He doesn’t realize she knows the combination. What Jordan finds on them is a confusing set of numbers and words that make no sense at first blush, but upon careful examination, Jordan believes they contain enough evidence to prove Riley’s accusations. If only she could trust Riley.
