The Reluctant Vampire & Lynsay Sands

A few words about the Argeneau series:

Most people think of the Argeneau series as a vampire series, but to me it’s more about family. The fact that they are vampires is just an added little twist, like an accessory to an outfit. It makes them more interesting in some ways, allows for more plot twisting and such, but it’s really not the main focus of the stories. The main focus is how the characters interact and respond to each other, how they argue and tease and how they come together and support each other when trouble strikes”¦and trouble always strikes.

In The Reluctant Vampire, trouble comes in the form of one Stephanie McGill, an unwilling and newly turned teenager who is being hunted by her sire, a mad no-fanger named Leonius. The Argeneaus have taken her under their protection. They’ve sent her to live at Casey Cottage in Port Henry where Harper Stoyan is looking after things while Victor and Elvi Argeneau are on honeymoon. And two Rogue Hunters, Anders and Drina Argenis ( a Spanish cousin to the Argeneaus), are sent to replace Tiny and Mirabeau who delivered her safely there. Their job is to keep the girl safe. Simple right? It should be, but between attacks on the household and the precocious Stephanie deciding to take on the role of cupid and bring Drina and a reluctant Harper together”¦well, things are soon less than simple. You’d be amazed at how much trouble a newly turned teenage vamp can cause.

Now it is YOUR turn, do you have any questions for me?  I have a new copy of  The Reluctant Vampire for one of my commenters today!

UPDATE:  Congratulations to Dana who is our winner!

I’m sooo glad you are writing about Stephanie’s story. I always wanted to know what would become of her. I’ll have to get the book when it comes out. Love the Argeneau series!

I quite like this series. Question. Unless I’m totally brain-drained I seem to remember the mention of a gay pairing, bodyguards maybe, in one of the last books. Are you going to do anything with them beyond that mention?

I have got to say, I got my first bite of your Argeneau Series when I read The Accidental Vampire. Up to that point any vampire novel I had read was more intense, dark, and HUNGRY…While all of your novels do have a mix of that, there is such incredible humor as well. Who ever heard of a vampire who was turned by a freak accident? LOL. It was brilliant. And I was hooked ever since. Anyway, my question is this: Did you start out expecting to put the witty and sarcastic flair into your novels which in essence turned them from being just a paranormal romance to a romantic paranormal comedy?

    Hi Lynsay,
I’ve already got my copy of TRV, so exclude me from the contest, please. I just wanted to drop by and tell you that even though, I’m saving it to read at the beach, I couldn’t resist peeking so I’ve already read the 1st 3 chapters and as always, it’s the best. Every time I read one, I think it’s the best until I read the next. Still in love with Bastien though. : ) I agree with you that it’s about family and you’ve done a great job of allowing us to fall in love with the entire family, even grumpy Victor. : ) Looking forward to Lisa’s story too and of course, Christian’s this winter. [doing my happy dance about that] Happy Reading everyone!

Gees, Jen, that threw me. LOL. I was thinking, who are Lisa and Robert? I don’t recall a Lisa and Robert in the Argeneaus. Then it clicked. The Madisons. LOL. I’ve written Lisa’s story. It comes out next spring. Hope that’s good news

Dewanna, I just couldn’t resist. Stephanie is a fun character. I’m sure we’ll see more of her.

LOL, Lisa. I haven’t got a clue. Seriously. They just seem to come to me.

    Hope you like them Erica!

Pat, they are pretty much stand alone. They don’t HAVE to be read in order, but for some it is better if they are. Notably Vampires Are Forever and Vampire, Interrupted should be in order, and Renegade Hunter and Born to Bite should too.

Melissa, I love Marguerite too. But then she’s based on my mother so I would.

I love that you focus on family dynamics and that the vampire part though enchanting I am sure is not the end all of the story.

It would be great to see something along these lines with a plot of love apart for a good reason for a while. As a military wife who lives in books with her husband away on long lonely nights, I crave reading about someone stuck in my spot too, trying to keep love going strong.

Do you have any plots that include anything like that for the future by chance?

Not so much a question as a compliment. I was in a book store, and ran across my 1st of your books. It was an Argeneau novel. Can’t remember the title off the top of my head, but it’s the one with the hilarious bathroom scene.

I fell in love with the series, went back and bought every available one. To read such true women (wondering about leg stubble, pit odor and belly bulges) won me over. Loved it!

Loved the whole premise of the (trying not to spoil for anyone just picking up the series) begining of the Vampires TO THIS DAY…is still the most unique on the market!

HUGE-HUGE Kuddos for that! It is a fascinating start for them! Love the tight knit family and everything about this series!

    Keep up the fab work!

    Hey Lynsay,

I was so happy to see you on the boards today! We spoke back in 2008 through email on the idea of inter-ethnic, same-sex and poly relationships in the Argeneau series. I still appreciate that you wrote me personally and I can’t wait to catch up on the series. I moved not long after we talked and I never did get around to raising the discussion on the readers boards like I wanted. Perhaps after my next deadline I can rectify that.

I’ve fallen a little behind on the series between the chaos of moving and meeting my own writing deadlines, but catching up will be my reward for getting the last three deadlines of the year subbed. So definitely take it as a compliment that you make we write faster! 🙂

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you. The wonderful experience of talking to you right before the chaos and then reading your books right after the chaos passed last year, all helped to get me back to writing. I had a single novella out when we spoke and now my third, fourth, (and fingers crossed, fifth, possibly sixth), releases are all coming out from my publisher(s)before the end of this year. My feedback, thus far, says I’ve followed in your wonderful footsteps, writing about people, families who just happen to be paranormal with a story to tell.

Thank you so much, Lynsay! I can’t wait to read the new one and all those to follow.

Edward, they’re already paired so while they may be mentioned again, they won’t get their own story.

Danielle, I write with humor no matter the genre. Don’t seem to be able to avoid it. Not really planned. It’s just me and my writing style.

Thank you Amy. I hope you like Christian’s story. I loved writing it.

Christian’s book is definitely my favorite, I fell in love with the guy and I’ve never done that before. And it was SUCH a fun story

    Yes, Andra, they will.

Sorry Kimberly, but not really at the moment, Vampire, Interrupted was about a couple parted for Centuries but its not quite what you’re talking about

Every book is a stand alone Jane, but you are probably best to start at the beginning. We do have a book list of the order on my website

I do have plans for Anders eventually Jocelynn, but not at the moment

I’m not sure Andrea. All of them have a little me in them

I don’t find either genre hard or harder, Kimberley. Although I do find certain stories harder than other it has nothing to do with genre and everything to do with storyline.

Thank you, Dana. It’s kind of you to say

    Thank you Gillian! Zimbabwe, cool!

I don’t have any plans to end it Tiffany

LOL Jocelyn. Hope they aren’t as much trouble as Stephanie.

    Thank you Leigh.

No, Sue, not much input at all. That’s all down to the art department who are awesome

I love this series and have been hooked since I picked up The Immortal Hunter and I immediately went back to get the other books in the series and I’ve been hooked since. I’m so excited to see Dani’s sister again, I was so curious as to what happened to her. We’ve gotten bits and pieces but I’m happy to see that she’s in this book. Can’t wait to pick it up. My two questions ( I hope I’m not repeating, haven’t read the other comments, my kids are keeping me pretty busy) Do you have a planned outline on how far you will take this series and whose books are next? Will we get to see Justin Bricker get a book? I just love him and anytime he walks in the room I know he’s going to make me laugh 🙂

I just had to say what a feeling of family you have given to the Argeneau (and hints of the Notte) clans, and I look forward to each book’s release. The vampiric element is woven in so well that it does not overpower the story, as I have seen in some lesser “all bite, little plot” attempts. Glad to hear that the series will continue.

first i really love your books, especially your Argeneau series. It has a very fresh and intriguing story line. I look forward to all the new books ad read them within hours of purchase usually. I wondered how you originally came up with your twist on the classic vampire genre? I also love to see interesting variations but so few did it as well as you have. 🙂 can’t wait for the next in the series come Nov. already on my to be read lists 🙂

Jane, Tiny’s story was in the anthology Bitten by Cupid.

Reem, I find my inspiration from real people and every day life. Really. You’d be amazed at how many true events are in the stories. (Grin)

Jesz, the Notttes are now brought in and others may be in the future. I have no idea when the series will end though.

    Thank you Jedigirlsc!

Belinda, yes, the stinky cat scene was inspired by a real event. Fortunately, no one got sprayed. But only by sheer luck.

Thank you Xakara. I hope the writing is going well. Take care.

Jolene, there’s no planned outline for the series or for whose story comes next. Whichever character steps forward at writing time is who gets a story. As for whose stories are coming, the three written are Teddy’s (Coming in an anthology at the end of November.) Christian’s which is called Under a Vampire Moon and comes out in December, and JEanne Louise’s story which is untitled and I think comes out next spring. I’m writing another in a couple months but am not sure who it will be. One of Christian’s band members is at the top of the list. Bricker, however, will have to wait a while. Sorry, but I have more work for him before he gets his story.

Diane, I originally started out with four stories, Marguerite’s four kids Lissianna, Lucern, Thomas and Etienne. It just grew from there

Thank you Mary, that’s a lovely compliment.

Thank you May. Hope you continue to enjoy the stories.

Michelle, I came up with the twist from necessity. I’m kind of logical by nature. Cursed and soulless vamps running around just didn’t cut it for me, so I needed an alternate explanation for the vampirism. Some research led me to nanos. But I didn’t want them to be new and young either, because part of the attraction of vamps is that they are old and have seen and done a lot. So, I ended up with Atlantis and it’s reputedly being advanced technologically as the explanation.

Hope you all continue the stories.
    Thanks
