Angela Knight, a New York Times Bestselling erotic romance author, has written a guide for both the newbie and the established erotic romance writer. She starts out by describing graphically what an erotic romance is and what it is not. An EroRom story is a well-written one that has the same strong story line as a mainstream romance, but that has more sex, which many readers find to be closer to real life.

Research and plotting are important too, though, and the author that does not do her research is going to be one who has a reader or readers who call her on it. Another thing is that research is not just important from say a historical or even a fight scene standpoint, but even some aspects of sex should be researched such as if you are writing a story that contains BDSM for example.

Passionate Ink: A Guide to Writing Erotic Romance is packed full of tips and forms, and explanations such that every part of what it takes to write EroRom is covered; nothing is left to the imagination. Ms. Knight picks apart every aspect of writing an EroRom including but not limited to dialogue and the importance of fighting scenes. One tip she gives that rings true is that if you are going to write about something such as shooting a gun for example, shooting a gun yourself will give you much more material to work with when it comes to showing your reader what it is like than just doing the research about it and then writing the scene.

Ms. Knight has, without a doubt, written the definitive guide on writing an erotic romance. Packed to the gills with examples from her own books, you cannot fail to understand exactly what her meaning is when she is describing a technique such as “show do not tell” for example. Colorful, and even raunchy in a few places, I actually found myself wanting to go back and reread many of my favorites by this author just so I could get the full impact of what she was showing the reader. I also loved the final sections where she gets into the nitty gritty of what you need to know to be successful and how to get to the next level if you are considering a New York Publishing house. Quite simply, this is the book to read if you want to write erotic romance, as an author she gave me quite a bit to think about. I highly recommend Passionate Ink: A Guide to Writing Erotic Romance for both the beginning and seasoned erotic romance writer.
