With his grandfather gone, Justin Bower decides it is time to move on to a different life in a warmer climate. Southern California is calling his name. The sun, sand, and surf sound like heaven, when in actuality, it is about to become his own personal hell.

Janelle Kirkland and her brother, Matt, split their time between their divorced parents, but are on their way to live with their dad permanently when they meet up with Justin. Their journey to the coast has barely begun when life takes a decided turn for the worse.

Justin, in all of his young life, has never encountered the type of creatures he finds in California. They feed off of the flesh and blood of humans and can move with such speed, it is barely noticeable to the naked eye. At first, his two new friends seem as horrified by the creatures as Justin, but he soon learns that they are all too aware of the existence of a dark underworld. All Justin wants to do is keep Janelle safe and whether that means from the Vamptilians or himself is the big question.

I honestly felt as if I needed a shower after reading this. The blood, gore, and body parts come flying at you from every angle with very little break in the action. Justin is your typical young male with hormone overload, and it nearly gets him killed time and again. Although he has great intentions, his immaturity plays a big part in his lack of effectiveness. This takes the dark side of Vampirism and all of its various forms to a whole new level with a unique blend of character traits that serves up blood and bits like a buffet.
