Catherine Walden’s two wishes are to say good-bye to her adoptive father who died unexpectedly, and to find a deep and abiding love. A freak storm occurs and to grant her wishes, transports her to the year 1596, Elizabethan England. At first it appears to be an elaborate set for a movie, but almost getting killed and witnessing the ways of that time, make her realize it might be real.

Andrew Dundouglas, Earl of Darrioch, was asked by his sister to bring a witch with him on his return from London. The witch he found seems to bring trouble with her. It comes in the form of having to rescue her from a witch-finder and a mob in York.

After admitting to when and where she is from, Cat agrees to go along with Andrew. Hopefully she will find the answers to why she was sent back in time. Getting there will be more complicated than just traveling. They will have to deal with betrayals, new loyalties, and attempts on their lives. At the end hard decisions will have to be made and dark truths revealed.

The story has some historical inaccuracies, inconsistencies in character personalities, and decisions which are frustrating to read. The plot was not very clear, the story started off slow and continued at that pace until the end of the book where it suddenly came together. There seemed to be an information dump to justify the quick wrap-up to the story. Some of the revelations were totally unexpected and surprising.
