Matthew is a young student on a break from college, and working in a cafe in Seattle. He plans to go to Florida and college soon, and is not looking for true love, just a little fun.

Drakon is a dragon shifter who is very much in touch with his dragon. When he sees Matthew’s birthmark, he knows Matthew is his new “pet.”

When Matthew first meets Drakon in the cafe he works in, and he propositions him, Matthew thinks Drakon is a jerk. However, when Matthew is attacked by two other men, and Drakon saves him and takes him home, he begins to change his mind. It is not long before Matthew falls head over heels in love with Drakon, but Drakon is keeping a secret that may break this relationship apart before it ever gets much of a start. Will Matthew be able to accept Drakon’s true nature?

Okay, first let me say what I liked about this book, the love scenes, and the fact that Drakon saved Matthew from two guys that were intent on beating the crap of him, as well as the writing style, this author has an awesome writing style. I normally adore this author’s books, but I just could not get past the fact that Drakon hunts and eats humans on a regular basis, nor the fact that once Matthew’s usefulness wears off, ie when he’s old, sick and or unattractive that Drakon will most likely eat him too. In addition, Drakon seems to struggle not to eat Matthew during sex and this just smacks a little too much of an animal playing with his food before eating it. This is one time when I think an author went a little too far on having a character be more animal than human. This shifter does not really come off as having any human qualities at all, he comes off as being a dragon wearing a human body, but does not appear to have much of a human side at all. This one part of the book just made it impossible for me to like this story. I’ve read other books where a shifter character ate people, but it was generally in self defense of a mate, and or to get rid of evidence and protect the shifter world, not purely for food. I could accept the occasional eating of a human for the other two purposes, but just for food, and only for food? Sorry I just could not get past this and give this book a higher rating. If you can get past this and focus on the love scenes, and the writing style then you may enjoy this book, but it was all just a little too brutal for me.
