After having been chased for hours by a group of men determined to catch him, Kale falls down a short embankment, literally at the feet of Deznee. Exhausted, he begs her for her shoes. Thinking it will annoy her father, Dez brings Kale home with her. Her father, however, reacts much differently than she ever expected.

Kale and Dez escape, but as the net closes around them Dez learns some horrifying secrets, and Kale gets a taste of freedom unlike anything he has ever experienced. Dez and her friends conspire to keep Kale safe, and try to come up with a plan to rescue some others also being held against their will. But when Kale is re-captured, Dez devises a cunning plan to save him.

Electrifying in its intensity, beautifully executed, this novel is non-stop action from the first page to the last sentence. It is chock full of a diverse group of characters, almost all of whom have special gifts or powers. Because their abilities can be attributed to a mutant strand of DNA on the sixth chromosome, they have been nicknamed sixes. Genetically enhanced even more than their parents, this second generation of sixes is proving to be quite disruptive. The vivid characterizations and world-building begun in this novel further enhance the already engaging storyline. I am thrilled that more adventures are in the works.
