Willa Everett Ffynche is beautiful and the toast of the Season. The Ton only sees the poised beauty gracing their ballrooms, but she is witty and has a great sense of humor in private.
Lord Alaric Wilde is the third son of a duke. He is a well-traveled adventurer and successful author just returned home after several years abroad. He finds himself the subject of a popular and sensational play and as a result has an unpleasant notoriety.
Willa and her cousin Lavinia are at Lindow Castle to celebrate the betrothal of Lavinia’s cousin Diana to the Duke of Lindow’s heir. Lavinia is thrilled because the castle is the childhood home of her idol, Lord Alaric Wilde. Willa is not as impressed with the young lord, who she finds to be a bit alarming, but very attractive. She is finding it hard to resist the famous author’s advances.
I love Ms. James’ novels. She adds an element of fun to each and every one of her novels, and I love her sense of humor. She also has an excellent sense of England during the Georgian and Regency periods that really brings her stories to life. Willa and Alaric are so real they almost seem to jump off of the page and their romance is gripping with a bit of danger. The two subplots involving Lavinia and Diana are going to make great books in the future. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and there are an awful lot of Wildes yet to come.
