Would you submit to a sexy stranger?
Dark, bearded and mysterious. The hero in my latest novella Something Brave is only known as “Sir’ for a large chunk of the story. What is the attraction of the mysterious hero? You see them in all different fictional genres and especially in romance.
What I loved about writing Sir was how he constantly kept Felicity guessing what would happen next. It gave me lots of scope for exploring her personality and the things that turn her on. She’s instantly attracted to the handsome, suited man who commissions her to make a unique item of jewellery for him but she’s scared to give in to her desires.
She has to be super courageous to answer his big question truthfully. Yes, she does want to be his submissive but what will that entail? I enjoyed slowly revealing little details about Sir. Not much, just enough to show how damn sexy he is.
Sex with a stranger is a popular fantasy. It’s very powerful to imagine meeting someone so sexy you just can’t help yourself. Especially if that person is a hot, dominant alpha who wants to make you his submissive and all you want to do is say yes. That level of lust has to be appealing. It’s also very freeing. There are no expectations of how things will go between strangers, no pressure of an ongoing relationship. Both people are free to be themselves and really give themselves over to sexual attraction.
This was a really fun dynamic to play with in Something Brave as Sir is an experienced Dom and Felicity has never submitted to anyone before. She has no expectations, many hang ups and a desire she barely understands. It leads to some really delicious tension and mental torture. And what author doesn’t enjoy torturing her characters?
Just me? Okay, well that explains why I’m drawn to BDSM so often then!
Do you know that this novel also has inspiration in the real world? Is there a mysterious Sir in my life? Well, that would be telling wouldn’t it? I will say I’m no stranger to blushing and bumbling and stumbling over my words just like Felicity does in front of the suited stranger but that is as much as you’re getting of that!
I do attend a Burlesque fair though. The Manchester Alternative and Burlesque fair is huge and Smut.UK has a stall there. We sell smutty books and hold the world famous erotic tombola. So I’ve seen some of the sights Felicity sees and when I went for the first time I was equally embarrassed. I’m an old hand at it now though, so I openly covet the sexy corsets and pretty implements. I even know what most of them are called, now. There’s lots of story material to be found there too, as proved by this novella.
