In September I traveled to Eastern Europe. My DH and I flew into Budapest, Hungary and met up with our friends Rudy and Joanne. We spent a few days sightseeing in Budapest until we had to board our river ship. For the next seven days we floated down the Danube River with stops in Austria — Vienna, Durnstein, Melk, and Linz — and disembarked in Passau, Germany. The last week we spent in Prague, Czech Republic.
As with all my travels, I come away with impressions of each place I visit. Budapest impressed me with their ease of transportation. One ticket got us on the tram, metro and bus, and we had quick access to any place we wanted to go. I had the best cappuccino at Café Gerbeaud, known for its tortes and pastries since 1858. Located on a pedestrian plaza, it was the perfect place to people-watch. Not only was the cappuccino wonderful, so was the 'baked just right crispy cookie and the arty red and black cup.
Vienna is the only city where you can sip an espresso and listen to opera piped live from the Vienna opera house. I followed the blue, green and yellow painted cobblestones depicting Passau’s arts district – an eclectic group of studios and fun and crazy décor. I absolutely went crazy taking pictures of the Lennon Wall in Prague (yes, that John Lennon – the wall a tribute to the John Lennon and the Beatles). I plan to enlarge a couple of shots that you see posted here.
I never know when one of these impressions will make it in one of my books!
