Sara Renault lives in Boston and works at an art museum. Attractive and successful, she is very attached to her dog, but not the ex who gifted her with Cody.
Rory O’Connor is an Irish actor waiting for his big break. In the meantime, he works part time at an art museum.
Being fired might have been the best thing to ever happen to Rory. After Sara let him go, he seized the opportunity to kiss her and fall in love. Her attachment to her dog is the only thing they argue about. Rory even gets his green card and a big Hollywood part. When Sara’s crazy ex kidnaps Cody, it is all Rory’s fault and Sara is devastated. Desperate to save Cody and their relationship, Rory tracks the ex to North Carolina and travels there determined to rescue the dog.
This is a charmingly well-written love story at first. That would have been enough but the author’s introduction of a dognapping takes this book from a good to a great story. Sara’s ex is clearly deranged, and Rory’s quest goes from difficult to dangerous. There are some truly suspenseful scenes in the novel that kept me on the edge of my seat. I highly recommend this read, and not just because I am Irish American and a dog lover.
