Certainly, there could be nothing about Lord Inglewhite’s behavior to make a young woman feel uncomfortable around him. He seemed a kind and considerate man, and he had been quite respectful when he lifted her over the puddle this afternoon. But thinking of that moment was a mistake. The memory of his scent — wool and earthy cologne mingled together—was strong enough to distract her even from the rich aroma of the punch in her hand. Recalling his hands on her waist made Ivy’s heart raced even faster as he lowered his head and pressed his lips lightly against her cheek.
