Most of the time, I’m a stay-at-home mommy. The rest of the time, I’m a work-from-home writer. But I’m always reading, absorbing words off the page faster than I can write them. It’s always been this way. Luckily for me, writers grow and hone their skills by reading other authors, and not just in their own genre, but in anything and everything. I’ll read a cereal box if you leave it on the table long enough. Maybe that’s why I write. I write the things I haven’t read yet.
Anyway, my love for reading recently inspired me to do something new for myself. Dabble in the world of book reviews. I love to read and write, so why not write about what I’m reading? Love on the Bookshelf is my review blog and is the new kid on the block. It’s the other “hat” that I wear in my life now, but it’s turned out to be an amazing experience for me as a writer too. Sure, it’s fun to read, but now it’s giving me an excuse to dive into new books, one right after the other.
While we do focus on romance-focused novels (or other genres with elements of romance), Love on the Bookshelf likes to cast a wide net and read a little of whatever we can find out there. I began my website Love on the Bookshelf as a forum for myself and three friends to share reviews about the stuff we were already reading. As word spread and our readership grew, some of the independent authors I’ve come to know offered their novels up to us for consideration. Before I knew it, I had a long queue of great works to wade through.
I mention this here at CTR because I hope to gain some attention to the world of self-publishing and the fantastic authors waiting to be discovered there. As I said in my last post, so-called “indie” authors have a lot to offer readers… and I’m not patting myself on the back here. Some of the great books we’ve reviewed on our site are from independent, self-published authors who just wanted to share their work with readers.
At Love on the Bookshelf, we celebrate the best of the best in the world of romance, something I think readers here at CTR will enjoy becoming a part of. We’ll never review any of my books (that wouldn’t be very fair), but I won’t stop trying to get credit to other fantastic, undiscovered indie authors that deserve a spot on your reading list too.
