I’ve had the pleasure of speaking to the creator of contemporary romance novel, Sierra Falls by Martha O’Sullivan. She writes what she knows from beautiful Lake Tahoe. Each of her books; Second Chance, Chance Encounter, Last Chance, and Christmas in Tahoe were created with that lovely town in mind. She has a connection with it and her love of it shines in her tales. Please enjoy her interview.
If you could write in any genre of novels, would you stay with the Contemporary Romance or add more to your writing genres?
I’m a big believer in “write what you read.” I read Contemporary Romance so I’ll stick with that. I actually read my books again after they’re published (with my heart in my throat in case I missed something)!
Do you write about places you’ve been, placing your characters there?
Yes, All my books are set in LakeTahoe. My family and I have been vacationing there for twenty-five years. It’s such a beautiful, awe-inspiring place I couldn’t help but write about it! I hope my books take readers there.
What is the most fun for you while writing: making the antagonist lose or making the hero/ heroine win?
The hero/heroine winning! All my books have happily ever after endings. The challenge is to make that ending both unpredictable and satisfying. Endings make books! It’s my favorite part of the process.
Where do you go when you need alone time to write?
I live inFlorida an write on my lanai. My girls are grown and on their own, so the house is quiet, but I love being outside. Even in the summer! My Cairn Terrier is my faithful companion.
What do you consider a romantic scene in your real life?
I love living in Florida and going to the beach. A perfect day would be spent at the beach followed by a quiet dinner on the water.
Have you ever cried or laughed too hard when reading your own works?
Cry more than laugh, but happy tears. But I do try to inject some humor here and there.
What would be your ideal partner, outside of real life?
I actually married my ideal partner over thirty years ago! Nothing and no one isperfect, but I think we’re pretty close.
When out in the ‘world’, do you ever get great ideas for plots or characters?
Absolutely! I love to people watch. Sometimes I make up stories about strangers!
Do you meditate to clear your mind and allow more room in your mind to write?
No, I swim laps to clear my mind. It does the trick every time.
Where, anywhere in the whole world, would you like to go for more ideas and why?
I’d like to go to Italy. It’s on our bucket list. What could be more romantic and inspiring than theItalian Rivera or the Amalfi Coast?
Thanks for having me.
