Welcome Contemporary Author Tina Gayle! Thank you for dropping by Coffee Time Romance and More to discuss your upcoming short story My Best Friend’s Ex.
I understand this story is included in a box set called Fling. Is this a set of all of your writing or a collaboration with other writers? How did it come about?
This is a group of seven authors all writing new adult stories. A friend of mine Kathleen Rowland decided she wanted to write a new adult story and invited other authors to do the same.
I have several stories that would fit the new adult profile. I hadn’t explored the new adult genre, so I decided to write My Best Friend’s Ex.
What gave you the idea for this story for the box set?
This story was originally a very short story, only a thousand words. I had looked at it as a met and tease. Then, after talking to Kathleen, I decided the couple needed to explore where their relationship might go.
It’s still a short story, but it puts the couple on track to a happy-ever-after.
I read you love to travel. Did you go anywhere for Memorial Day weekend?
My husband and I went to Las Vegas to visit his parents for their 55th wedding anniversary. While there, we went out to the red rock canyons and visited a Nevada winery. We also played golf at Primm Valley Golf Course, which was a blast.
Do you have any exciting summer travel plans? What is the most memorable place you have visited so far?
We have already scheduled a number of golf trips. We are also heading up to Idaho to visit friends.
The most memorable place I’ve visited would have to be when we traveled up to the Arctic Circle. Mike and I went there for our 25th wedding anniversary.
In the not too distant future, I’d love to visit Europe. I don’t, however, want to go for a few weeks. I’d really like to stay for a few months, but that will have to be after Mike retires, so those plans are on hold for now.
Wow. Very exciting! Do you add the places you’ve seen and visited in your books?
Yes. I placed my Executive Wives’ Club series in Nebraska because we were living there at the time. I really enjoyed visiting the wineries in the state. I must say there are a number of states that have some awesome wines.
Do you get to read as much as you write? Who are your favorite authors?
I have to say I don’t read as much as I’d like. Between promotional demands and writing, I have a lot less time to read than I once did. When I do pick up a book, my go to authors are Jayne Ann Krentz and Christina Warren.
How many books do you have published? What part of your writing career are you proudest of?
I have over twenty books published. Not all of them are under my author name Tina Gayle. I write in several other genres and enjoy the change to help inspire me to keep writing.
I’m proud of my ability to write several stories a year. Today’s market wants writers who consistently release new books. I work very hard to continue to offer my readers new stories to read.
That’s a lot of books! Congratulations! What has surprised you most about a career in writing?
The amount of work there is to do that doesn’t involve writing. Marketing for all authors is a requirement. It requires a skill that uses parts of the creative genes and lots of sheer tenacity.
What would it surprise readers to learn about you?
I’m not overly worried about how I look. My girlfriend in college used to give me a hard time because I was never color coordinated. If I was cold, I would wear a black and yellow Steeler’s sock hat, a fuchsia wool coat, blue snow shoes and red gloves. As you can see, I don’t care what I look like as long as I’m warm.
Luckily, I live in Southern Cal so being cold is not an issue. Ohio State, on the other hand, can be very cold in the winter.
What’s next for you? What are you working on now?
My next project is to finish up the Executive Wives’ Club series. The last book CEO’s Widow will complete the series. I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of the year.
Do you have a message you would like to share with readers?
I write because I love sharing the stories in my head. I feel my readers will enjoy these adventures, too, at least I hope they do.
All the best to romance readers. May your dreams come true, because we all deserve a happy-ever-after. I also invite you to visit my travel blog where I share pictures of places I’ve been or played golf. https://tinagayle.wordpress.com/
Thank you, Tina!
