Interview with Kishan Paul

Welcome Kishan Paul  to Coffee Time Romance and More. We are so excited you are here to talk to us today.Let’s just jump right into the questions shall we?

Hi Matilda! Thanks for having me!

Blind Love was released June 2nd and is currently voted as the Best Book of June on Goodreads Care to share some information on your new book?

I’m proud to say that Blind Love also been chosen as One of the Top Contemporary Romances in the Smexy and Fabulous Beach Reads competition and I was chosen as The Best New Author in the same competition.

Wow sounds like readers are really liking Blind Love. How about a few questions about your characters and other writings? Do you like your books/stories when they are finished or are you overly critical of your own writing?

I love my stories as soon as I finish them…until I re-read them. At some point in the editing process, I end up wanting to delete every word of the story and give up on the whole concept of writing.  It takes a couple of months of distance from the manuscript before I can love my stories again. So yes, I might be a tad bit critical of my own writing.

I think we are always our own worst critic. What do you do when the characters “tell” you do change the storyline?

Say “okay”. I’m a panster. I write by the seat of my pants. This also means that my characters drive the storyline. As they develop, the ideas I had for them and the story change. Like in Blind Love, when I started writing the story, there was no Sunny (Lauren’s best friend). Sunny kind of pushed her way into the story and changed all my plans.

LoL So you have real pushy characters that want their story told. I love finding new authors to read; for someone who hasn’t read your work before, why should they read your books?

My stories are very different than most romances you’ll find on the market. For example, Blind Love is not a typical love story and Lauren’s not your typical heroine. It’s the story about a woman who is legally blind and scared of her future. Even more than her future, she fears people seeing her as weak. She’s very relatable and human in her challenges. Part of being strong is to know what your strengths and your weaknesses are and to understand what you can and can’t change. Lauren’s forced to not only see her weaknesses but accept them in order to finally find love.

Relatable and human are definitely what I look for when on the hunt for a new read. What do you hope readers take with them, after reading one of your stories?

Hmm, good question. I want readers to connect with my stories, feel what the characters are feeling, ache for them and become absorbed in their lives. By the time readers finish the story, I want them to walk away feeling like they were part of something special. That they have learned something new about a subject (blindness, addiction, cancer, kidnapping) and have a deeper understanding how that issue impacts a person both emotionally and physically.

That is truly a plus for the reader to be transported into the story to feel and touch the story around them. ok one last question about your writing. If one of your books could be made into a movie, which one would it be and what actors would play the characters?

I would love to see Blind Love on the big screen and as far as who would play the characters…

 Time to confess I had no clue who these men were had to Google and OMG awesome choices! LOL Now onto some personal questions. What are your pet peeves?

Noisy eaters. It drives me crazy when drinks are slurped or when food is smacked. Don’t even get me started on when people talk with their mouths full.

Yes! You nailed it  we have the same pet peeves! What is something about you that people would be surprised to know?

Up until a couple years ago, I was the biggest prude. I rarely told dirty jokes and blushed every time I read an erotic romance. But, shh, that’s our little secret.

Lol makes for interesting research,  your secret is safe here .If you weren’t an author, what do you think you would be doing instead?

I’m already doing what I love. In my other world, I’m a therapist in private practice and have been for about fifteen years. I love working with emotions and helping people heal. It’s probably why I enjoyed working on this story and writing about Lauren and Gabe’s pain. I’m also a mom to two amazing little monsters and have been married for over eighteen years to a man who knows me well enough to know when to just shake his head and walk away.

That’s the best; helping heal in both worlds. So what makes you smile?

Making people laugh, usually it’s at my expense, but I still get such a kick out of knowing they thought I was funny.

Hmm laughing at you, or with you, they are one in the same right? What is the strangest thing a fan has said or done to get your attention?

Nothing yet. I may have a better answer for you in a few years, but so far I have to say I have the coolest fans ever.  It always humbles me when I see someone post things about my books.

Awesome! Do you have any final words or advice?

In my story Blind Love, Lauren feared for her future. Like her, we’re all scared of something and usually that something is the unknown. Challenge those fears and remember that if you don’t go out there and try, it will always be the unknown.
