Interview with Honey Jans

Good morning Ms. Jans, and welcome to Coffee Time Romance. My name is Venus, and I am thrilled to speak with you today about one of your newest releases “Twice Haunted”.

What a fabulous story for anyone who loves paranormal erotic romances. Thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to answer some questions.

Thank you for the warm welcome.  It’s good to be here and talking to the Coffee Time Romance Readers.  I’m so happy to talk about Twice Haunted.  It’s one of my all time favorites.  It’s sister book, “Once Haunted,” by my friend and critique partner Nicole L Pierce is pretty special too.

We would love to know a little bit about the woman behind the steamy romances, can you give us a glimpse into the daily life of Honey Jans? If you are married we would love to know all about your first meeting with your spouse and was the magic there immediately?

Thank you for your interest.  I live in a small town and am married to my soul mate Glenn.  We first met when I was a freshmen in high school.  He asked me out to the movies, and I thought he was teasing me and turned him down.  Then some ten years later we were reintroduced and this time it clicked.  I think it always had to be him for me.  It’s been said that I’m a born romantic, and a sucker for happy endings, but I like them hot!  I’ve always been a tactile kind of person.  I simply can’t walk by something soft and cuddly without running my hand over it.

What inspired you to pick the pen up one day and create your very first book?

I was inspired to write when my sister gave me a whole grocery bag full of paperback romances she’d read.  Needless to say I devoured them and then decided that maybe I could write one.  I dabbled in the creative process somewhat unsuccessfully and then I saw an ad in the paper for my local chapter of WisRWA, the Wisconsin Romance Writers of America.  I went to the meeting with stars in my eyes and knew I’d found my calling.  After that I joined a good critique group, learned my craft, and haven’t looked back.

I literally daydreamed the opening line for my first book at work.  “I want a divorce.”  Then I set about constructing a loose plot from there.  That book after a few changes is now titled, “Roping A Runaway Wife,” and available at Red Rose Publishing.  I hope you’ll give it a read.  I’ll never forget writing, “The End,” at the bottom and sobbing like a baby with happiness.

If I wasn’t writing I’d be an artist.  My mother was a gifted artist working mostly in pastels and I’ve inherited a little bit of her gift.  I do currently work for Red Rose Publishing as a cover artist and that keeps my artistic side happy.

What do you like to read? What books/authors were your faves as a child and what characters stand out in your memory from them today?

I love to read and I just discovered a new author, new to me that is, Toni McGee Causey.  I’m reading her, “Girls Just Want To Have Guns.”  Other faves are of course Sherrilyn Kenyon, Jayne Ann Krentz, Elizabeth Lowell, Shawna White,  Karen Robards, and Anne Rice just to name a few.  As a child of course I loved, “Little Women,” by Lousia May Alcott and, “The Trouble With Angels,” by Jane Trayhe.

What is your daily writing routine? Do you use mood music or candles? Do you need complete quiet to concentrate? Are you a plotter or a pantser? How do you create your characters and story line? Are your characters modeled after actual people or a combination of people they have met? Do you do a lot of research?

My daily writing schedule is fluid and based on my mood, inspiration, and deadlines.  I usually write in the morning and edit in the afternoon.  But some evenings when the spirit hits me you’ll find me working till the wee hours of the morning.   I don’t use mood music or candles but I do try to put myself into the characters situation.  I’m not a plotter I’m more of a seat of the pants kind of writer.  I do research mostly on the web and try to set my books in places that I’ve been.  My characters aren’t based on people I know but some phrases that I’ve heard might work themselves into my books.

Can you introduce us to your hero and heroine in “Twice Haunted”? What makes them tick?

Here’s a little run down on Crispin and Haley my, “Twice Haunted,” hero and heroine.  Crispin is a buttoned down conservative journalist with a Dominant streak buried deep inside.  He’s hard as nails until Haley turns her big blue eyes on him.  Haley is a fallen angel literally.  This former bad girl has a heart of gold and it’s set on Crispin.   She’s learned from her past mistakes, has worked as a matchmaker in, “Once Haunted,” to make up for them, and is now ready to start life anew but first she has to bring the Scarlet A Killer to justice. 

In “Twice Haunted” Haley is a plus-sized model, do you have strong feelings about plus-sized heroines?

Haley is reborn as a plus sized woman because I believe that full figured women are brimming with love and emotion.  I have a special feeling for them and can relate. 

Your hero is a bit of a Dom who really enjoys spanking his partner, is this something that shows up in most of your stories?

Crispin is a bit of a Dom and Haley brings out the best in him. 

I do admit to loving stories with a kinky twist and the BDSM element does show up in most of my stories.  I write what I like to read and what speaks to me.

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you believe in guardian angels? Do you believe in psychic abilities? Will the highly entertaining Max be making any appearances in the near future?

I do believe in soul mates, guardian angels, psychic abilities, and ghosts.  I know my parents who have passed away are looking down on me.  I do want to give Max his own story. 

Out of all of the characters that you’ve written, who is your favorite and why? What character in your books do you relate to the most? If you could live in one of your stories for just one day which would it be and why?

It’s hard to name a favorite character from my books because I fall in love with them all but if pressed I’d have to pick Cyn Cooper from, “Cindy Revisited,” a Torrid Twisted Tale available from Whiskey Creek Press Torrid.  This take off on Cinderella has all my favorite elements as you can see from this quote.  “What is a girl to do with an obscene secret admirer, a heard of prolific pygmy goats, and the man of her sexual fantasies back in town, and hotter than ever?   Find out by reading Cindy Revisited.”

Can you please tell us about any special upcoming works?

I’m working on a new Torrid Twisted Tale titled, “Goldie and the Three Bears.”  This modern day fairy tale is full of humor and heat two of my favorite things.  I also have a steamy suspense, “Stormy Weather,” and a vampire erotica, “Once Bitten,” in the works.
