Welcome, today we are talking with Carol McKibben! I would like to thank you for taking time out of your busy writing schedule to answer a few questions.
First, I think it’s important for readers to get a little insight on an author that they don’t necessarily get from your professional bio. You’d be surprised at what readers connect to, and sometimes the simplest ‘I can relate to that’ grabs their interest where nothing else can. Don’t answer anything you feel uncomfortable with.
Can you share a little something about Carol McKibben that’s not mentioned in your bio on your website?
I own a Friesian. His name is Okido, and we compete together in classical dressage. That’s where horse and rider dance together. I started training to do this in 1991.
What is your favorite:
Animal – dogs (of course) and horses
Food – steak and salad
Movie – It’s a split between Forrest Gump and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and then anything with dogs or vampires.
TV show – Outlander
Actor – Sam Heughan (of Outlander)
Singer – Bruno Mars
Author – John Irving and Stephen King
What are your pet peeves?
Being late for anything.
Who is your hero?
My husband
Give us one thing on your bucket list.
I want to go to Italy
What would readers find surprising about you?
My age.
If you could go to heaven, who would you visit?
My father, mother, brother, and all the dogs and horses I have loved and lost.
Any bad habits?
Not a one.
What’s the funniest thing that ever happened to you?
I got caught in a raid in college at the University of Georgia during a party and hid in the closet with a friend while the campus police searched the house. When they were in the front of the house, we climbed out the bedroom window and ran like crazy. We finally fell down laughing hysterically.
Now that our readers know a little bit more about Carol McKibben, let’s get down to the business of discussing, Kane, The First Blood Son, which is the prequel to your vampire mystery thriller series, Snow Blood.
Please tell us a little bit about Kane, The First Blood Son, which just launched October first.
As you know, it’s the prequel to my series. Kane has always been a favorite character of my fans. After I finished writing the series, I wanted to write a short story about Kane to reveal how he became vampire. Well, I wrote a short story, and my publisher liked it so much she asked me to expand it into a novelette, which I did. It reveals how Kane met his maker, Brogio, and the consequences of it.
With all five books of your Snow Blood Series already out, why did you feel it was important to write a prequel to your popular series?
See above. PLUS, I decided I wanted to give Kane his own series, so what better way than to start from the beginning? The first book in his series, the Moon Blood Series, will be out in January. (Shameless plug.) And yes, it will be told through the eyes of a hybrid wolf.
Please tell us a little bit about your Snow Blood Series.
As most of my books, this 5-book series is told through the eyes of a dog. In this case, a vampire dog. It is the story of Brogio, the very first vampire, and the love of his life, Selene. It’s a vampire mystery thriller with tons of twists, turns, mythological gods and goddesses, shifters, monsters, werewolves, you name it.
Here’s a blurb from Season 1: When Brogio must turn Snow, a beautiful white husky, to save the dog, a series of events are unleashed that reveal a sinister plot against the father of all vampires. As life and true death experiences bond the master vampire and his newly transformed vampire canine together, they unravel a conspiracy that when resolved may return Selene, the love of Brogio’s life, back to him and set him free from the lonely existence that has plagued him for thousands of years!
What was your biggest challenge writing the series?
I wanted to make it unique, nothing like other vampire stories. My reviews tell me that I didn’t do too badly with that.
Do you plan any other series?
Yes, the Moon Blood Series (Kane’s series.)
Any other works in progress?
Yes. I am working on another novella – Memoir of a Friesian and Season 2 of the Moon Blood Series.
Any advice for aspiring authors?
These are not my words but those of Hemingway and King: write every day.
Final words?
Buy my books and review them! LOL!
