Please welcome Jessica Scott to our blog.
CTBB: First tell us a little bit about you-the-author such as a title that came out in 2011, your publisher’s site and/or your own, and where you can be reached on the social networks that seem to be “where it’s at” these days.
JS: My debut novel Because of You launched Random House’s Loveswept as a digital first imprint in November. By day, I’m an active duty Army officer, mom and wife. By night, glamourus romance writer, sitting in front of my computer with caffeine and my imagination. I’m most often on twitter as jessicascott09 but can be found on Goodreads and Facebook as well.
CTBB: Do you favor resolutions, goals or just say phooey on it all??
JS: I don’t do resolutions because well, I never stick to them. But I do have goals for this year that are: read at least two ““ three books a month is the biggest.
CCBB: What’s your rationale for this choice?
JS: For me as an officer, I think in end states: what’s the goal of this task? If it doesn’t have a purpose, then I have a hard time finding the motivation to get it done. But if I know what I need to do and why? Yeah, I’m better able to focus. So I know I need to work out more. Why? Because it helps my creativity to get my endorphins running. I have two books to write this year. I need that. So goal as opposed to random resolution. Does that make sense or does it seem like it’s splitting hairs?
CCBB: Will you share with us something that your choice helped you accomplish, one that went down in flames, or the top one on your list this year?
JS: Well, it’s kind of funny. Once I say I’m going to do something, I kind of manage to make it happen. It might be the painful, long drawn out process that involved much angst and wailing and gnashing of the teeth that was my road to publishing or it might be something like saying I’m going to get my master’s degree. Once I decide on something, then it’s just a matter of mapping out how to get there. That’s part of the reason why publishing was so challenging: there’s a lot of guidance but no step a, step b, step c with tests at the end, you know?
CCBB: What’s the weather like where you are today? If you could wrinkle your nose or wave a magic wand would you still be there or somewhere else in this amazing world?
JS: Today was absolutely beautiful. 75 and sunny. Perfect day to spend it on the lake fishing with my husband who just came home from his 4th tour in Iraq and our kiddos.
CCBB: Are you a chronic packrat, a travel-light-in-life devotee or in between?
JS: Packrat. I can’t pack light to save my life. I try. And fail. Miserably. Makeup takes up a lot of space and I am a consummate make up horse!
CCBB: Thanks for taking part in our fun chat today and may the force be with you, your pen, keyboard and/or personal New Year’s plan!
