About Black2Nature:
Black2Nature aims to increase equal access to natural spaces for Visible Minority Ethnic communities as they are currently excluded from the countryside
Our objectives are to:-
Work towards the increase in engagement of Visible Minority Ethnic (VME) people with nature and the environment, through education, so that VME people
• Just enjoy nature
• Understand the benefits to physical and mental health and wellbeing,
• How that can relate back to their rural heritage abroad;
• The education of those in nature conservation camp; media, environment and education or similar sectors in connecting with VME communities
• Getting VME communities outside and interested in conservation careers.
• Can campaign to be heard and raise their voice in terms of the challenges and issues facing the environment and nature
Getting VME communities outside and interested in conservation careers. Organise nature camps, walks and events to enable VME young people, women, families and communities to experience nature/countryside and its benefits. Campaigns for equal access to nature for Visible Minority Ethnic communities as they are currently excluded from the countryside
To work with and nurture VME young people to help them find their inner resilience to help their mental health
Campaign to make the environmental sector ethnically diverse through holding conferences/workshops and consultancy as only 0.6% of environmental professionals are VME.
There is significant institutionalised racism within the sector and so those VME young people trying to enter it need support and mentoring as well as the sector being prepared to admit there is a problem and tackle it.
