My favorite titles for the year 2015 encompass a variety of genres. I am a big science fiction and fantasy fan, so I was delighted to renew my acquaintance with Julie Czerneda’s “Species Imperative’ trilogy, one of my all-time favorite series by her, Sharon Shinn added to her eerily beautiful “Shifting Circle’ series (The Turning Season), Tanya Huff finally came out with a new space story featuring Torin Kerr (An Ancient Peace), and I had the pleasure of starting a new fantasy series set in a place called Maradaine, starting with the title The Thorne of Dentonhill. Jim Butcher published a fantastic steampunk title, The Aeronaut’s Windlass that is the start of a new series, Juliet Mariller added to her mesmerizing “Blackthorn and Grim’ series with Tower of Thorns, Seanan McGuire’s Pocket Apocalypse provided a wild ride of a read, and Gillian Philip provided a conclusion to her gritty “Rebel Angel’ series with Icefall.
There are so many paranormal series that I love, but I was particularly enamored of the newest Thea Harrison (Shadow’s End), Robin Owens (Heart Legacy), Jayne Castle (Siren’s Call), Christine Feehan (Cat’s Lair) and Eileen Wilks (Mind Magic) titles.
I discovered a new favorite m/m author, the remarkable Kaje Harper who kept me well-entertained not only with her paranormal series featuring sexy werewolves, but also mesmerized me with her breadth of contemporary stories that featured several couples that I could read about endlessly. Of course, the talented Tara Lain added to a couple of series that I already enjoyed as well as introduced a new contemporary series, “Love in Laguna’ with two great titles, The Knight of Ocean Avenue and The Knave of Broken Hearts.
My favorites in erotica include titles by Beth Kery (Glow), and Roni Loren (Call on Me) and I discovered the wealth of creativity-inspiring adult coloring books, including those which focus on meditation-inducing mandalas.
Contemporary romance had some delightful stories including those by Donna Kaufmann (Sea Glass Sunrise), Jill Shalvis (All I Want and Second Chance Summer) and Beverly Jenkins (For Your Love)
Finally, but definitely not least, there were fantastic romantic suspense stories by talented folks such as Laura Griffin’s Shadow Fall and Elizabeth Lowell’s Perfect Touch.
These are a few of my favorites for the year, memorable because I inevitably burned way too much midnight oil since I didn’t want to put them down until I got to the end”¦and then I started reading them all over again. What were some of your must reads this past year?
