Rachel Mills is a hardworking accountant at a crossroads in her life. She has been passed up for the third time for a promotion she deserves and she is wondering just why she is working so hard for people who do not appreciate her.
Atticus Evan Bowen, litigator turned restaurateur, is tall and handsome and rarely fails to get what he wants.
Just when Rachel is questioning her career path, her godmother gifts her with a bookstore in Marietta, Montana. Even though she has no intention of being a bookseller, she has to check the store out. Atticus Bowen wants the building for his new restaurant, but soon finds something he wants more than that building.
This is a well written and engaging holiday romance. The setting, a small tourist town in Montana, is perfect for the story. Rachel and Atticus are not the perfect couple at first glance, and their love story is a bit rocky, but everything works out in the end. I really liked both of the main characters and the residents of Marietta are a friendly and interesting bunch. I was less than thrilled with Rachel’s father, who I found to be a bit cold and judgmental, and I wish Lesley the godmother was more involved with the story, but overall, I loved this quick holiday read.
