Gay/Trangender Romance
Rating: 5 Cups
Erik never knew his parents. Dropped off in a hospital corridor when he was a year old, he grew up in the foster care system in England. The one woman who wanted to adopt him died when he was eleven. Erik is large, red-haired and has long hair and a beard. Everything that his partner Andreas loves about him.
Andreas is from Spain and is a transgender man. Since both he and Erik want kids he chose to become pregnant, however, it was the hardest thing he has ever done since he identifies as being male and what the pregnancy does to his body reminds him of everything he is not.
Though it is hard on both Erik and Andreas, they finally have a beautiful baby girl named Beatriz. And both have something they both very much want, a family. However, though Andreas loves his daughter, he is struggling with dysphoria. He is tired of being mistaken for a woman, especially since his outside looks do not reflect his inside identity. Even without female breasts, the weight is settling everywhere he wishes it would not, but most especially in his hips and thighs, giving him a “curvy” look that he hates. Erik loves his partner and just wants him to be happy, and he is ecstatic to have a child, something that he has wanted his entire life. So, when it appears that in order to have a slimmer more masculine body, Andreas is forgoing food and overexercising, Erik becomes concerned. Will Erik be able to help his partner through the difficult transition back to who he truly is?
Erik the Pink is my first transgender romance and I enjoyed reading it very much. The author does not sugar coat what it is like to be transgender or the very real difficulties that transgender people go through to become their true selves. As a reader I very much appreciated that. The love between Erik and Andreas is palpable and very real. Mr. Metzger writes the relationship ups and downs very realistically. Honestly, this book is far more about the emotions of the lead characters than their sex lives. Personally I found this refreshing and real. If you love real romance with at times gut wrenching emotional scenes and happy endings, then you will absolutely love this book as much as I did! I highly recommend Erik the Pink by Mr. Metzger, it is a superb and very well written story.
