There are many things that happen in everyday life that bring happiness or sadness. Often a simple word, a little hug or even a smile can console someone. Turn on the radio or television and it seems the media is bringing stirring news into the home. As troubled as days may appear for some, others find a way to soothe the soul with comforting words.
With just the right prose, Nikki Giovanni brings to life picturesque words that allow one to feel good all over. Her lovely composition carries many breathtaking verses that have a way of making the bad turn into something good. The 3rd Rail almost hit home with some of one’s everyday activities. Everything Good is Simple shows how simple things can be. How to Save the World in 100 Words is indeed wise and true. Letting the Air Out has a nice enjoyable beat to it.
In No Translations, I love the descriptions. I could almost smell the aroma of the food cooking, and hear the Jazz coming out of New Orleans. I thought Good Book and A Fish out of Water were nice grabbers. To round it out Ms. Giovanni leaves her readers with We Are Virginia Tech to remind them, “we will prevail” through anything we endure.
Bicycles: Love Poems is an entertaining collection of poetry. I found some of the lovely verses to have moments that hit me, as if the author had been with me daily and seen some of the things I did in my everyday life, or struggled with. One thing I really liked about the book was its compactness. I can carry it with me anywhere and always have the beautiful words at the tip of my fingers. Nikki Giovanni is a lovely lady who knows how to pen poems to reach into the heart and soul, leaving a blanket of great feelings. I am always captivated and carried into a blessed solace of peace by her remarkable works.
