QUESTION: Besides RT and RWA, what’s your favorite book convention to attend and why?

The Emerald City Writers Conference held every October in Bellevue, Washington is an amazing event. Not only do they have outstanding classes/workshops, but there’s the Passport to Romance event the Saturday of the conference.

It features not only local PNW authors, but well-known authors (in the past, Darynda Jones, Rebecca Zanetti, Roxanne St. Claire, and upcoming in 2018, Beverly Jenkins, Elizabeth Hunter, and Damon Suede). While the conference is reasonably priced, to include classes and three meals, the Passport to Romance event is free to fans/readers, and all the authors there give away beautiful swag and books. Yes, free books!

There are also pitch sessions in which attendees can pitch their work to editors, agents, and reps from agencies and publishing houses. Centered in Bellevue, there’s great shopping and dining, and just a drive across the bridge puts you in Seattle. Everyone there is gracious, welcoming, and supportive. It’s always nice to return and not only see familiar faces and catch up, but also meet new and awesome people.

After attending my first one back in 2016, I was even more motivated with my writing. I had no published pieces in October of 2016, and now I have ten, with two upcoming releases! The month following my first attendance, I actually completed NaNoWriMo (after only contemplating it for many years), and that piece I wrote has since been revised and picked up for publishing! The conference will probably be my yearly splurge!
