QUESTION: Besides RT and RWA, what’s your favorite book convention to attend and why?
D. Reneé Bagby said:
This is an easy answer for me since I only attend one convention a year now that I’m living in Hawaii. My husband is military and we’re living on Hickam AFB, so it’s really expensive to go off-island for anything, let alone a convention.
The one convention I make sure to attend every year, no matter where I’m living is the Reader-Author Get Together (RAGT) hosted by Lori Foster in West Chester, OH. Since attending my first RAGT so many years ago, I’ve only missed one. That was due to being hospitalized for an impacted kidney stone the day before I was to fly out for the convention. Suffice to say, stuck in a hospital room was not how I wanted to spend my convention weekend.
RAGT is a small convention, compared to most. It maxes out at 500 attendees (100 authors and 400 readers), give or take, and registration fills up fast. Usually the first weekend in June, it starts on Thursday afternoon and goes until Saturday night, with everyone meeting up to do breakfast on their own before heading home.
For $100, readers get to stay in a nice hotel with a very friendly staff who enjoys hosting the event each year (they even donate prizes to the charity raffle) and mingle with lots of authors in an intimate setting. Since the hotel isn’t that big, finding an author is just a matter of going to a boardroom where they are set up or the main ballroom where all the big announcements and meals take place.
It’s a fun, friendly atmosphere that is laidback and a joy to attend. The booksignings that take place on Friday and Saturday are open to the public (free) and always upbeat. I love RAGT just because it’s a low-key, drama-free convention. The focus is the readers and making the event great for them.
RAGT is also a time to reconnect with author friends and fans who I only see on Facebook and Twitter. Once I get back stateside, I’ll probably attend more conventions. But RAGT will remain my favorite.

Serenity (A Gezane Universe Novel)
[Fantasy Romance]
They can have an everlasting love… if the demon will allow it.
Assassination attempts are nothing new for Princess Serenity. Since before her birth, many enemies have tried to end her life to stop her from fulfilling a marriage treaty that would bring an end to the war between humans and demons. She happily embraces her upcoming role and wants nothing more than to be a loving wife to her new husband, but that may be asking too much in a political union.
King Melchior is not a demon and his people aren’t savage monsters. He proposed the marriage treaty to prove to the humans that he and his people want peace. He didn’t expect to end one battle just to start a new one in his bedroom. No matter how eager his new wife proclaims to be, he has no intention of letting her in his bed or his heart.
The atmosphere of the palace is strained, and the estranged royal couple have made themselves easy targets for attack. The assassins will restart war the moment they kill Serenity, but one magic is strong enough to save her. In order to use it, Melchior must decide which is more important to him—his pride as the ruler of a strong and powerful people or his love for a small, determined human who was brave enough to offer her heart to a demon.
