In this version of King Arthur I gave Nimue (Lady of the Lake) a history, weaving that history into the current story. Having her point of view in the story added more depth to it. In this excerpt Nimue is tormented by the past. Kelley
Excerpt:
All the pain she felt was directed into her sword arm. Beneath a full moon, she thrust and parried at her unseen enemy, slicing him in half with her powerful sword. Her long hair braided into one long plait swung around her head, slapping her skin like a wet whip. The physical pain helped to quell the pain in her heart.
Nimue stopped to catch her breath, a thin sheen of sweat glistening on her taut body.
Her anger resurfaced and she took up her sword again, fighting the ache that tore her heart apart. Bitter tears streamed down her face as she blindly fought the unseen enemy.
The memories that tormented her came to life and she remembered him–the fierce warrior who she had loved.
Taren.
She still remembered the arousing sound of his deep voice and the sensation of his tender kisses.
But their love was forbidden.
She remembered the last time she lay with Taren in her bedchamber, savoring the feel of his naked body pressed against her.
His warrior hands tenderly stroked her cheek and his fervent kisses drowned her in love. "I have been truly blessed by the gods. I think I have died and gone to the land of eternal youth and beauty." He gazed at her, his dark amber eyes like bright embers filled with love.
She took his hand and led him from her bed to an adjoining alcove, pushing aside a green silk curtain, revealing the hot spring that bubbled up from the earth. A narrow shaft of light sent a golden splash of daylight onto them as they reclined in the soothing spring.
"I can give you so much more than you can have on the earthly realm." She held up a perfect apple. "If you taste of this apple, Morgaine will have to accept you." She sliced a piece of the apple with a whetted dagger, eating it slow and sensual, trying to entice him to stay. She cut another piece and offered it to him.
His eyes dimmed. "As tempting as that is, you know I have a restless warrior’s heart. I don’t know if I can be happy living in a peaceful realm, even with you, my sweet dove." He kissed her lips and moved down to her sensitive neck, stirring embers of desire within her. The half eaten apple fell from her hand, rolling away on the stone floor, forgotten.
"Perhaps I can persuade you to change your mind," she cooed, stroking his cock, smiling when it sprang to life under her magic touch.
"Perhaps you speak true." He pulled her on top of him, lathing her nipples with his smooth tongue, raising them to sword tips. Her body reacted to his touch, surging with excitement.
She rode him like a wild steed, writhing and grinding her sex against him, the hot water rippling around them. Her long white hair trailed across his chest like a silk curtain, teasing him like probing fingers. He groaned, calling out her name. They came together in one surging wave, her body trembling from the orgasm. Never before had she had such strong feelings of love for anyone, especially a mortal.
They lay together in her bed until it was time for him to return to his home. As the king of the Trinovantes, he had much to worry about now that the Romans had just invaded the island and proved to be a formidable adversary. And time passed quickly in the faery realm so he could not stay for long.
With sad eyes, she bid him goodbye. "If you must leave me, please accept this gift from me. It will aid you in your fight against the Romans." She handed him a bronze lance. The lance was adorned with carnelians and rubies, empowering the weapon with courage and fire. "I must caution you. Use it only when you feel your life is in danger."
"Thank you for the gift, my lady." He kissed her, holding her close to him. "I will try to return to you as soon as I can. I promise," he whispered, brushing his lips against her temple. He let go of her, gazing into her eyes, conveying his love for her with a tender gaze.
"Be safe, my strong warrior." Tears rolled down her cheeks.
He brushed her tears away. "I will return to you, my sweet dove."
She watched him leave, her heart filled with sorrow and something else she could not understand.
She understood everything now and her heart sang of vengeance.
