Sergeant Ryan Petit, A.K.A. Groundpounder, is a United States soldier stationed at a remote base in Afghanistan. As Groundpounder he has a blog in which he flirts with a blogger known as Vicki V. Ryan has just received a Dear John letter from his girlfriend in Germany and has fantasies of meeting Vicki V. Little does he know she is about to land at his base and in his bed.

Vicki Vanover, A.K.A. Vicki V, started out impressed by the quality of Groundpounder's writing and eventually finds herself enamored with the man behind the words. Vicki is a reporter determined to write a story on the women's rights of the Afghan women.

After spending idle time in Kandahar Air Base without meeting any Afghan women she makes a hasty deal with a soldier headed to a remote base nearer the native Afghan communities. Unknowingly, Vicki lands at Groundpounder's base, which now has a female population of one, and the sparks are about to fly.

Cat Johnson delivers a realistic soldier's story. She takes the reader to a remote location built from her words that was realistic in nature. The background work for the novel stands up and shows her dedication to depicting the lives of soldiers. This book is captivating from the very first page. The author created two characters who have the reader rooting for them and hoping for love to conquer all in the end. I love how Ms. Johnson incorporates real life events into her writing and then ads enough spice to the reality to make it fun. "A Prince Among Men", is an excellent story that caught me in the beginning and hung on to me until the very end.
