My favorite is Joanna in Follow Your Heart. As we know, women today face many challenges in the business world. But in late medieval England, owning and running your own business was even more difficult. So I admire the talented and resourceful Joanna, who doesn’t give up despite daunting obstacles including her own brother’s and employee’s betrayals.
She yearns to carry on her father’s legacy and make his glass-painting studio a success. While striving to restore relationships with clients who now doubt her abilities thanks to her brother, she must continue her creative and management endeavors and produce new designs and stained-glass windows. She finds ways to maintain calm in the face of so much pressure.
Because her life revolves around her work, marriage isn’t on her to do list. But men did have more power and authority, and could open more doors. To save her studio, she makes a deal to marry an intriguing man she happened to meet…not knowing how strong emotions and feelings would turn her life upside down. Or how difficult it would be to achieve the very thing she wants most.
