My choice would be Emma from Rogue Knight, book 2 in the award-winning Medieval Warriors series.

Emma is the kind of woman we would want for our best friend. A resident of York and of Danish and English blood, she is fiercely loyal to her people. As a young widow, she took into her home two young orphans and raises them as her own.

Her father, the leader of the Danes, gave her a wolfhound she named Magnus who follows her about. (Anyone loved by such a dog has to be wonderful, right?)

When the Normans come to York with intentions of subduing the local population, one of the knights falls hard for Emma, never knowing she is the daughter of the rebels’ leader. Emma stands between the knight she comes to love and her father, never betraying either, but aware the two are enemies.

And, when her best friend attempts suicide after being raped by a dishonorable Norman knight, Emma talks her into giving life to the unborn child she carries.

Add to this Emma’s dreams that warn of danger and you have a heroine you will not soon forget.

Rogue Knight

[Medieval Romance]

York, England 1069… three years after the Norman Conquest

The North of England seethes with discontent under the heavy hand of William the Conqueror, who unleashes his fury on the rebels who dare to defy him. Amid the ensuing devastation, love blooms in the heart of a gallant Norman knight for a Yorkshire widow.

A LOVE NEITHER CAN DENY, A PASSION NEITHER CAN RESIST

Angry at the cruelty she has witnessed at the Normans’ hands, Emma of York is torn between her loyalty to her noble Danish father, a leader of the rebels, and her growing passion for an honorable French knight.

Loyal to King William, Sir Geoffroi de Tournai has no idea Emma hides a secret that could mean death for him and his fellow knights.

WAR DREW THEM TOGETHER, WAR TORE THEM APART

War erupts, tearing asunder the tentative love growing between them, leaving each the enemy of the other. Will Sir Geoffroi, convinced Emma has betrayed him, defy his king to save her?
