QUESTION: Of your published titles to date, which heroine is your favorite and why?

Jacqueline Diamond said:
Among my heroines (in more than 100 published books) are some I admire, some who make me laugh—and one who delights me above all, because she’s so many things that I am not. Fearless. Tough-minded. Smart-mouthed. Okay, tender-hearted might fit me (in a good mood.)

Police officer-turned-private investigator Patty Hartman is the heroine of Falling For the Nanny, part of my Safe Harbor Medical romance series. She eats all the wrong foods (“If you can’t grill it or fry it, I’ll pass,” she says. “I make an exception for pie”) and hasn’t worn a dress since prom night in high school. That’s when her handsome, charming boyfriend, Alec Denny, broke up with her to pursue a career in medicine.

Now Alec’s back in town, divorced with custody of his young daughter. He’s never forgotten the girl he left behind, and now his unstable ex-wife has threatened to kidnap the little girl. She needs a bodyguard, preferably a woman who can pose as a nanny, and according to Patty’s boss, she’s elected.

Nanny duty challenges Patty on every level. Fix lunch? If only chocolate counted as a health food! Figure out how to braid the kid’s hair? Arrange a shorter haircut! Fall in love with Alec again? That’s the real danger.

Patty actually appeared as a supporting character in a previous book (Officer Daddy) as a friend of the hero’s, and keeps tickling the back of my mind to reappear in my spin-off series, The Safe Harbor Medical Mysteries. Like Patty, I’m loyal to my friends!

I can see why Patty Hartman is your favourite heroine. She sounds like a good mix of tough, smart and funny. I have to read this book!
