Thirteen Ways To Read A Book

  1.  Oh yeah, thirteen ways. There are many more, but let’s not be greedy. Starting with my least favorite: Reading in the bathtub. Why isn’t it a favorite? The water gets cold, my big toe gets hung in the faucet trying to turn the hot water on, and my book or ereader gets wet. However, you might want to read my first book in a series of three: Death Crosses The Finish Line while bathing. The hot water would relax you as this is about a serial killer that stalks women in health clubs. Of course, the hot detective, Tom Watts may be just what you need to also heat up the water. I’ve written this under my pen name of: D.M. Woods. The second in this series is going through the third edit and should be out the first of next year. Title: Death Is A Habit, and sure “nuff, Tom is there heating up the pages.
  2. Reading in a warm, sunny car on a lazy afternoon. Yep, in a car. Doesn’t matter make, model or year. Warm sun shining through the windows, no one knows where you’ve hidden, seat reclined”¦yum! You might want to read my first novel: Montana Star. It’s about a woman in the 1800’s who has the training necessary to practice medicine. But, because women aren’t readily accepted as doctors, Aries answers an ad in the newspaper stating: Wanted Wife To Work On A Ranch In Montana”¦Aries doesn’t have a clue about keeping house, cooking, and doing ranch chores. To make matters worse, the ad is deceptive and the hero doesn’t have a clue. Heck, he doesn’t want or need a woman in his life, especially not a woman doctor.
  3. Reading while riding in a car. Okay, I take it back. Reading in the bathtub isn’t my least favorite. This is. I get car sick and reading while riding”¦oh boy. Now on the plus side, it does make the ride go faster, (unless you have to make frequent stops for impending nausea). If you are one of those admirable people with a cast-iron stomach, read another historical novel of mine: Sapphire Blue. This novel makes you want to run out and buy yourself a beautiful Yogo Sapphire ring or pin. This is the stone in Princess Diana’s ring that Kate is now wearing. Meghan O’Reiley, the beautiful woman in this book, is gifted in the art of healing with herbs. Remember, this is set in the 1800’s & healing is highly suspicious. Lots of facts, lots of love.
  4. Reading in the shade of your patio. Bees humming, flowers blooming, and iced tea handy. For this venue, I recommend my contemporary romance, Tears In The Wind. Leanna is haunted by the death of her husband and blames herself. She leaves Colorado for Wyoming, hoping to find some release from painful memories. There she meets Matt, a wealthy rancher. Did I say a Very Handsome wealthy rancher? Need I say more?
  5. Reading a book when you should be doing housework. I’ve been there, done that. Another historical romance of mine that is hard to put down is: Unconquerable Callie. Callie is a liar, and a darned good one. She lies her way on Seth’s wagon train heading West. Sure she has her own wagon, oxen and supplies, but she’s a woman traveling alone. She’s also sassy, independent, and desirable. This is one of my favorite books. (Of course, I’m a wee bit prejudice.)
  6. Reading with a flashlight after your partner has just snarled they are trying to sleep. You’re on your own with this one, but I suggest you read my historical book: Wyoming Heather. Whip is a burned out Texas Ranger who has no idea the fiery woman he meets on the banks of the Powder River will so drastically change his life. Lots of unexpected happenings in this book. I loved seeing a strong, virile man like Whip made speechless by the beautiful Heather.
  7. Reading with your book hid in a text book while the professor lectures. Yesh!
  8. Reading in a hammock. This is one of the best ways: put one foot over the side to push the hammock gently back and forth. Be careful! This is prone to making your eyelids heavy with sleep. Might I recommend the second book in my “Death’ series, written under my pen name of D.M. Woods, Death Is A Habit? This book will very likely keep you awake as the killer doctors lattes to poison petite, blonde women. It should be out, ready for hammock reading, early 2014.
  9.  Reading at a bus stop. Caution! This is a good way to miss your bus. The good news is you can read until the next one comes along.
  10. Reading in a coffee shop while sipping a 16 oz, sugar-free Irish Cream, single, skinny, latte. Does it get any better? Do feel free to try other sizes and flavors. And on rough days, I recommend a double shot.
  11. Reading while out camping. What better way to commune with nature”¦well, it could happen. You could read a book with trees, mountains, streams, and, of course, love in it. I’ve got a sixteen foot Scamp trailer (1996 no less) that I love to read in. It’s my camping buddy along with my husband and our two Yorkies, Stormy & Eli.
  12. Reading while waiting in a doctor’s office. Sure beats thumbing through ten year old sports magazines. Or clipping recipes you’ll never make. That’s my downfall “cause I’m always on a diet and that chocolate pie with meringue topping looks positively sinful. I clip, drool, and then store it in my recipe box.
  13. TA DA!!! Here’s my very most favorite: reading in my recliner, feet up, fireplace burning, and a box of chocolates on the end table, close to my right hand. Now if you don’t have a fireplace, no worry. Currently I don’t, so I can tell you I’ve tested the hypothesis of reading in a recliner, feet up, and a box of chocolates very handy and it works, believe you me, it works. I have even tried it without the chocolates. It does work, but not as well. Candy bars are a good second. A bowl of ice cream is a good runner-up. Can you tell I’m a junk food junkie?

As you can see, reading is marvelous no matter where or how. I read four or five books a week in addition to writing, my passion and love. I always say, next to writing my greatest pleasure is having my books read. And it is. My books are available in hardback, paperback, and ebooks. They can be found at SoulMate Publishing, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. It is such a thrill to hear from my readers. I can go for months on positive comments. Yep, my feet don’t touch the ground with a five star review. So all I can say is: HAPPY READING MY FRIENDS.

Hi, Hope you enjoyed my first attempt at Thurs. 13th. Do check out my books and I’d love to hear from you. I’m busy writing my next historical romance. It’s about a long, lean cowboy wrongfully incarcerated in Yuma Territorial Prison/1800’s. Wish me luck.(Of course there’s a beautiful woman involved.)

This was an interesting blog and had to laugh as some of the items matched me so much I wonder if you know me. The cold water in the tub and turning all wrinkles has happen to me many times, also your new book with the lean cowboy who was wrongly treated sounds good too.

Sue, thank you so much for your response. I do know you…you’re a person that loves to read as much as I do. I hope you read my other books as I think you might enjoy them. I’m coming along quickly on my ‘lean cowboy’ novel. I’m having fun writing it.
    Nice hearing from you.
