Where the story begins

Hi! My name is Debra Jupe and this is a first for me. I’m so excited to be a part of Book Brew with the coffee crew. Thank you for having me. I write Romance/Suspense with a little edge. My first book, Echoes in the Wind is published by The Wild Rose Press, and available in print and e-pub.

A little about me: I was born and raised in Waco, Texas. I left the area for twenty eight years only to return in 2008. I’m not sure I’m here forever, since I love being near the water. I dream of the beach a lovely house with the waves as my backyard and sitting on my deck creating story after story. Sigh”¦someday.

I’m the proud mom of two great “kids” though they’re both grown and married, they’re still my babies. I also own three rescue dogs, which can be challenging, but rewarding. I say that as I stare at a chewed up flip flop in front of me. The positive is I love shoe shopping.

I’ve been writing, romance in particular, as long as I can remember. Not to age myself, but I started my “career” in longhand creating stories in spiral notebooks. According to my mom, I left my closet full when I moved out.

I wrote until I reached my twenties then becoming a wife and then a mom took precedence over my hobby. It ended up being a twenty year hiatus. In 2004 my life turned upside down and I hit my personal version of rock bottom. In my darkest moments, I returned to writing. First I used it as a form of therapy, then I decided to become a serious about it.

Echoes in the Wind has been in my head forever. The book is about a defunct boy band guitarist/song writer who meets a normal woman and sparks fly along with many complications which lead them to””well you’ll have to read the book.

The premise stemmed from my love of boy bands back in the day. My imagination led me to meeting my favorite band member and him falling madly in love with me. I’m probably not the only one who’s had that little dream. Fast forward thirty years. To write the book I did a little research on defunct boy bands in the “whatever happen to” files. One thing ran true-especially for the song writers was the longing of respect as a musician and writer from their peers. They also wished for a more mature, lasting audience. While they appreciated their time in the lime light, they wanted much more from their careers than being members of a teen band, which light faded quickly.

So that’s where I started my story. Eric Boyd is striving to become an actual rock and roller and a legitimate song writer after his teen idol status disintegrated. Also my research gave me another plot. Many of these members were taken advantage by unscrupulous managers and record companies. They ended up broke after their fifteen minutes was over.
To add the suspense twist, I had Eric former bandmates being murdered one by one, with him being the next target.

Enter Darla Hennessy, a geology instructor from Texas. I came up with geology instructor theme because my son, who is now a geologist had a cute teacher’s assistant who caught his eye. The lovely lady is now his wife.
Darla is a sassy girl, and in the beginning she’s a little star struck, but as the story moves, she doesn’t have a problem putting a sometimes spoiled Eric in his place.

This was a fun book to write. The characters took over as soon as my fingers touched the keyboard, and they took me on a wild ride that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I hope you’ll give it a read and let me know what you think.

Geology instructor Darla Hennessy’s dreams are shattered when her longtime boyfriend dumps her to marry someone else. On the rebound, she lets a friend drag her to a party where she meets former teen idol Eric Boyd, the Scottish rocker she had a crush on years ago.
Eric has one goal: return to the industry as a legitimate musician and earn the respect of his peers. But his manager is missing, someone is murdering his former band mates, and he might be next on the killer’s list. The last thing he needs is a relationship.
Despite their growing chemistry, Darla is wary of getting involved too. But when the killer attacks Eric, she can’t turn her back. On the run, they have to stay one step ahead of a madman even as their attraction heats up. It may be love, but can they survive long enough to find out?
