Why I wrote Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker

February 2007 was a cold winter that I stayed indoors much of.  Snuggled into large blankets at the edge of the couch with my laptop logged onto one of my favorite sites, the Derbyshire Writer’s Guild.  Here I read and enjoyed story after story based on Jane Austen’s beloved masterpieces. My favorites of course being Pride and Prejudice.

One particular day I was reading a story that made Mr. Bennet an almost villain. I was discouraged and frustrated with the story, complaining unmercifully to my dear husband, who I’m sure could have cared less, when he offered up the challenge “If you think you can do better, write your own story.”

And so it began, Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker.  Now here it is, just three years later, my dream has come true with the publication of my first book.

Longbourn’s Unexpected Matchmaker, among other things, makes Mr. Bennet a kind, caring and loving father that I always envisioned that the witty Elizabeth Bennet would have.

Has some element in a story ever tickled your fancy, sparked your imagination or exasperated you so much that it threw you into a writing frenzy? If so, I would love to hear about it.

I have always been an avid fan of Jane Austen’s novels. I am a member of the Jane Austen Society and a Jane Austen writer’s guild. I was born and raised in the farmlands of Eastern Washington and am a graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, WA. Married with two boys ages 5 and 2, I love to sail with my family and spend time on the lake on weekends. I especially enjoy sitting on the bow of the boat in the shade of the jib to write.
