Please Introduce Yourself

Hi, Coffee Time readers. My name is Brenda Whiteside and I’m hanging out at Coffee, Books and a Blog with you today. I’ll be posting several topics today. First up is – just who are we?

Hmm…coffee. My coffee preference is strong with a hint of caramel and enough cream to turn the coffee the color of the caramel. Yes, I like caramel. So grab your favorite coffee choice and join me. My morning always starts with coffee. I tried to break the habit a while back but mornings just weren’t the same.

Hmm…books. I have a wider range in my taste for books than for coffee. I write romance but I read many different genres. Recently, I finished Diana Gabaldon’s third book in the Outlander series. A few weeks before that I reread To Kill a Mockingbird. My TBR list is longer than I am tall and is filled with romance, suspense and a smattering of biographies.

Hmm…blog. What I’m doing today. When I’m not blogging, I’m writing. I write contemporary and historical romance. My first novel, Sleeping with the Lights On, was a contemporary romance published by The Wild Rose Press. My latest novel is a 1945 historical romance published by Melange Books.

And when I’m not writing, I enjoy motorcycling and lazy evenings sipping red wine and enjoying good conversation with friends.

So…what’s your coffee preference, what are you reading and what do you do when you aren’t reading blogs?

Convinced she was born to be an artist, Brenda never took her love of writing seriously. And then one day, sometime after college, after marrying a man doing a stint in the army and the birth of her son, she found more satisfaction filling a blank page with words than an empty canvas with color. She left her paints behind. After publishing several short stories, she turned to writing novels. Regardless of the length of her story, the characters drive her forward, taking her on their journey of discovery and love. Brenda and her husband are gypsies at heart having lived in six states and two countries. Recently, they moved to prairie country in Arizona and are enjoying the wide-open spaces while tending fruit trees and veggie gardens. They share their home with their dog, Rusty. When Brenda isn’t at her laptop writing, she enjoys hiking, motorcycle riding and the company of good

  1. I am a coffee addict, but after many arguments with my cardiologist, who happens to be my boss, I switched to de-caf.  I still drink it all day but my disposition is better.  I love mine with just a hint of something sweet.  Sugar, a flavored creamer and I've even been known to melt chocolate into it.  I experiment.  I did find a flavored coffe at a gas station that I am hoked on.  Peanut butter cup coffee, had to find some. I own a Keurig coffee maker and searched their site and found peanut butter coffee  can't wait till it gets here.  :}  I also love to read. Just finished Janet Evonovich's Explosive Eighteen in her Stephanie Plum series and I am waiting for Cindy Gerards next book that is due out on the 31st.  My favorite is Suspense and that is what I write.
thanks for the fun read but back to the day job!!!!!

Hi Brenda! I'm a coffee addict too! I love Caribou Coffee's Mocha in the winter and Espresso Cooler in the summer but at home I drink plain old coffee and cream. I'm also a read-a-holic! Right now I'm reading James Lee Burke's latest and plan to pick up Stephen King's 11/22/63 at the library today. I am very much looking forward to reading your books!!!!! I'm so glad I learned about you via the internet. I honestly can't remember if it was on facebook or through various author or book sites. I'm working on my first romance book. I've loved to write all my life but never did anything about it. I'm seriously burning the candle at both ends to dedicate daily time to writing. I'm about to turn 60 so I can't keep only talking about writing ! I train horses professionally and drive school bus. I've been married 38 years to a man I'd stay married to forever if we lived that long! Our children are 4 cats–Darby, Casey, Cooper, and Molly. If I had more time I'd love to have a border collie too. We moved to Cannon Falls, MN in 2005. We almost moved to northeast TX but didn't. I applaud your courage in moving to AZ–taking the chance! We lived in Stillwater for 12 years and Cottage Grove for 9. I used to drive 18-wheelers over the road and want to write a story with trucking as a background. It is an interesting life! My husband still drives but I quit as I missed riding too much! My life is pretty mundane–drive, ride, write, drive, do everything else that needs doing. Repeat every day. Ok–back to work! Thanks for asking readers to share!

Hi Lynda – wow you really are a flavored coffee person. I love peanut butter cups so I guess I should get peanut butter coffee and melt chocolate into it!

  4. Brenda says:

Hi Julie. Oh! Your life doesn't sound mundane at all. Hey, get busy girl on that trucking romance book. That sounds intriguing. I love to read too, but have so little time for it. I manage a book every couple of months. I love Cannon Falls. My husband and I biked the trail a few times when we lived in Minneapolis. And it's never too late to write that first book.

  5. Edna Curry says:

    Hi Brenda!
Good luck with your new home in AZ. I'm sure you won't miss our below zero weather. It did go back to eight above today. LOL.
Maybe MFW should have a meeting at your house!

Hi Edna. Thanks for coming by and thanks for the well wishes. I do not miss the cold. Sure come on over!

Hi Honey, Just dropping by to leave some love (after drinking 3 cups of caffeine-rich, 100% arabic coffee). Tweeted this
    Loads of love

A warmish (for Minnesota) 26 degree evening and I'm about to take my daily walk though to be completely honest my daily walk is "daily" 5 days a week. I used to go through books like crazy but now that I'm working daily on my story (okay "daily" here means 6 days a week!), my reading time has been drastically cut! I still have to have some book going though or I'll go crazy! My current hopeful romance has a background of horses. But trucking will definitely be in an upcoming story. I'm working hard but I know I have a long way to go. I do believe in myself even though I've said, "I must be nuts to think I can do this." I have enough miles behind me in life to know that I need to keep putting one foot in front of the other until I reach my goal. I have no illusions how difficult it will be so it's a good thing I'm stubborn! Horses are a good career to teach a person that in between the highs it is just plain very very hard work! Thank you for being so generous with your time for your readers!!!!
