Excerpt Forever Yours- Part 2

Coffee, Books & a Blog

Admiral Hunter organized an evening of celebration for the new women squadron. They all gathered at the local pub, dressed in their best uniforms. As the women proudly entered the pub, everyone applauded and cheered. Liz glanced around; unsure of all the attention they received by their fellow male pilots. Not everyone though liked the idea of a woman pilot in combat, but the others who supported them hushed the negative comments at once. One pilot she knew supported her was Philip. However, she didn’t see him. “Private Williams.”

Her heart jumped in her chest and a breath caught in her throat. “Yes sir.” She stood as did the others and saluted Philip.

He saluted back. “Follow me outside a moment, please? I must speak with you.” He asked, not waiting for an answer.

She nodded and followed him outside without asking any questions. It didn’t matter what he wanted. Every moment spent with Philip was always precious to her. And since she arrived at Hornchurch, they barely spoke a word to each other. They were training with their own squadrons, and opposite sides of the airfield. She missed their talks. She missed spending time with him. And now he stood a mere breath away. Yet, instead of her childhood friend, she found her superior officer. And she tried keeping her thoughts of touching him at bay. She wanted to jump into his arms and hold him tight. And she wanted to tell him how happy she was to see him after all this time. She rubbed her arms. It wasn’t the cold making her tremble so. The dark and chilly spring night was quiet except for a few soldiers walking around.

“Here.” He wrapped her in his jacket and she felt the warmth heat her body. And she could smell his scent; a mixture of soap and musk. It was his scent. An unfamiliar stirring invaded her. What was wrong with her? She walked beside her childhood friend; not her lover. Yet, she felt her heart drum in her chest. She took in a silent breath and hoped he didn’t notice her nervousness. They walked around the pub, keeping a reasonable distance from one another. Liz tried swallowing the lump forming in her throat. Never had she felt so conscious of her body than at this moment with Philip. He stopped and stared at her. She looked away, feeling her cheeks warm. She was thankful they stood away from the pub lights. This way he couldn’t see her blush under his stare. Then, without warning, he took her in his arms and held her against his body. After all this time apart she finally touched him and felt him and yet, she could not find the words to tell him how much she missed him.

Liz was happy and grateful for this moment with Philip. Laying her head against his chest, she felt so warm and secure in his arms. All her memories of the times spent with him flowed back. She held back the tears threatening to leave her eyes.

“Are you warmer?” Philip asked, not letting her go.

She nodded, tensing, awaiting his kiss without realizing she lifted her face in invitation.

“I’ve missed you so much, Liz.” The words were little more than a whisper.

Disappointment washed over her as he kissed her brow then stepped back. “I’ve missed you too Philip.” She looked into his heavenly blue eyes.

“I’m surprised seeing you here of all places.” He smiled, taking her hand and sat on the bench a few feet away. No one saw them.

Indeed, she felt as though they were the only two people in the world. She felt her heart race when his warm muscular thigh brushed against hers. And he held her hand in his large one. She stared at their joined hands. Never did she feel so nervous with Philip. All this was very unknown and frightening. “Do you think we’ll be fighting soon?” She asked, changing her train of thought.

“Soon. With the battle in the Atlantic, they need more ready pilots.” He held her hand in his and looked at her with serious eyes as she remained silent. “Liz. Promise me you’ll be careful when it’s time for you to on missions. I know I can’t stop you, so promise me you’ll take care.” Philip’s tone was firm but soft.

She nodded without taking her eyes away from his. “I promise. And you do the same.” She was so afraid to lose him.

Philip nodded as they sat in silence a little while longer. She wished so much Philip kissed her. But he didn’t. He held her in silence. And he never said how much he missed her. It was for the best he said nothing. If he told her how he missed her or loved her, she may fall into his arms and forget her dreams. And she wasn’t ready to sacrifice her chance in the Royal Air Force for more than friendship with Philip. Or was she?

She lifted her head and his eyes met hers. He stared into her eyes for a long while. And she felt herself melt on the spot. What was wrong with her? She stared at his tempting lips and wished he would kiss her. Instead, she felt his hand cup her cheek and his thumb traced her lower lip, leaving a trail of heat. He didn’t kiss her but the intimate gesture sent waves of warm sensations all over her body. His eyes stared into hers with intensity. And her heart drummed in her ears. Anticipation alerted all her senses. “Liz.” The low rasp in his voice sent another wave of sensations through her body. She bit her lower lip and closed her eyes for a quick moment.

Philip sat so close; she could feel his hot breath caressing her cheeks. Her heart jumped in her chest when his lips touched her cheek and the delicate skin near her ear. “Liz,” he whispered again in her ear. A new sensation centered in the special place in her lower belly. She saw stars behind her eyelids and waited for Philip’s next move. Will he kiss her? She didn’t know. His hands kept her warm against the cool air. Indeed, she felt a bit over warm and unsure of her body. Philip never touched her in such an intimate way before. His lips lingered near her ear. And his hot breath sent shivers along her skin. She turned her head ever so slowly and met his eyes. She could see his eyes darken. He cupped her cheeks and leaned his forehead against hers. Their lips brushed together. Voices in the background brought them back to earth. Philip broke his embrace, leaving Liz breathless.

Quickly, she regained her composure before someone saw them together. She glanced at Philip and his face didn’t show any trace of emotion. “I should go,” she said, swallowing hard against the lump in her throat. Tears threatened to leave her eyes. Before he said a word, Liz removed Philip’s jacket from her shoulders and walked toward the camp.

Philip rose from the bench without saying a word. He let his feelings for Liz get the best of him, and he may have destroyed her trust and friendship. He cursed under his breath. How could he have led her on in such a way?He watched her walk away and he wanted to go after her and hold her in his arms. And he wanted to kiss her. Again, he felt his body tighten with the thought of tasting her sweet lips, and how close he came in realizing his dream. She was so soft against his body. And he loved her scent. He raked a hand through his hair, and sat on the bench. She made his blood stir, and he felt so alive. But they could never have a life together; not now. The war forced him to choose a life without Liz. They could remain friends; if she still wanted his friendship after what he put her through.

Follow the yellow brick… er … the blog trail!

Saturday, November 22, 2008 | Category: Book News

Naughty is NiceOn Friday, 11/21/08, my new book, Naughty is Nice popped up as AVAILABLE at Shadowfire Press. We held a big holiday party for the publisher and authors on my group, Romance Lives Forever, and tons of people came. It was a huge success.

Sultry Summers’ story is Dream Elf. “Is the handsome Irish stranger she keeps meeting and dreaming about a simple passer-by, a concerned citizen who shelters her during a storm, or the fireman who rescues her from her car when it plunges into the ditch? And wait… is that blond hair covering … No, those can’t be pointed ears. Can they?”

Mine is A Romance for Christmas. “It’s Christmas Eve, and the end of a year in which everything she loves has been lost. Everything but her determination to survive and her little girl. Will it be a night of sadness, or of love and miracles?”And then it hit me… I’m going out of town for four straight days and won’t have access to email. Holy cow. How am I going to get out the word about Naughty is Nice? One of my friends (bless her) said, “Why don’t you do one of those blog tour things?”

After sending back an email calling her a genius, I asked if she could recommend some good places to post. Not only did she tell me, she came over right here to this spot and signed me up on Coffee Thoughts. Thank you Karenne, and you really are a genius!

The purpose of this blog is to introduce you to …

1. Shadowfire Press - my publisher “Enter the shadows … set your imagination on fire”

2. Introduce you to Sultry Summers – my co-author for this Christmas anthology (and me, o’course) ;p

3. Give away a really cool “Naughty / Nice” Christmas latte mug stuffed with Dove Chocolates, plus, every person who follows the trail to the end gets a free download of A Christmas Cookbook. The latte mug is a great size, very tall, and has a handle you can wrap your hand around. Click the link above and see a picture for yourself.

What do you have to do? Each day for four days, visit the blog listed in the last spot you visited. You can only win if you make a comment on each and every blog. This verifies you followed the trail and visited the four wonderful friends who helped me out!

You don’t have to say much. Just Happy Thanksgiving or Following the Trail will do. On the final day, that blog will link you to a secret page on my website, which will give the directions on how to enter the contest. (I promise, it’s super easy!) That’s it.

Do all four blogs and get a cool cookbook, and a chance to win a great mug.

Ok, where’s the next stop on the trail? On 11/23, check out http://www.romancejunkies.com/rjblog and see where to go next!

Goodnight & Thank You from Shobhan

Saturday, September 13, 2008 | Category: Book News, Reader News

My sincere thanks to Bonnie and the Coffee Crew for letting me post my thoughts and my excerpt of THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER on the Coffee Time Blog. I have had a lot of fun over the past two days. Getting to know Bonnie and Karenne has been a great experience as well.

To answer Bonnie’s question, yes, I have had many reviews of The Forbidden Daughter, including Coffee Time, Romantic Times, Publisher’s Weekly, Romance Reviews Today, Armchair Interviews, Book Pleasures, and from a dozen or more other reviewers and bloggers. Fortunately every one of them so far has posted positive reviews with high ratings. I am really pleased with all of them. My first book, THE DOWRY BRIDE, has become quite popular with book clubs, and I address them regularly, approximately two per month. I’m hoping THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER will become just as popular with book clubs.

But I’m sure there are a few negative reviewers lurking in the wings, poised to spring a rude surprise on me. Nonetheless in the past year, after receiving a few bad reviews, I have grown a thick skin and learned to handle negativity rather well. Putting one’s work out there for public consumption comes with its drawbacks. I call it an “occupational hazard.”  However the good reviews far outnumber the bad, and those are the ones that make me smile.

In response to the editing question, I do a lot of self-editing before my critique partners give me their input, after which I edit some more before sending my manuscripts to my agent. She usually has me do more revising, and then they go to my editor at Kensington. I have been fortunate that my editor has been wonderful so far. She has not asked me to revise anything. But that may change in the future. My luck can’t hold out forever. Again, it’s the nature of the world of writing.

I would like to thank all of you who came over to the blog, read my posts and Bonnie’s about THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER, and offered your comments. I hope you enjoy reading my latest release.

Lastly, The Signed Copy of the Book: Tomorrow, Sunday, September 14th I will be picking the winner who will receive a signed copy of THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER. There is still time left, so you are welcome to come over and read the blog and post your remarks.

Goodnight and God Bless!

Excerpt from The Forbidden Daughter

Category: Book News, Reader News

I am happy to share an abbreviated excerpt from The Forbidden Daughter. A full excerpt is available on my website: www.shobhanbantwal.com

Chapter 1

Today was the day! Today Isha would most likely have an answer to that single question she’d been obsessing about for weeks—ever since she’d found out she was pregnant: Was it a boy, or . . . God forbid . . . a girl?

Nonetheless, she wasn’t sure if she wanted to know. Even if she did, would her doctor be willing to reveal the fact, since it was illegal to discuss the sex of an unborn child with its parents? For Isha it was a case of mixed emotions and desires. There was a popular Americanism that described her feelings perfectly—damned if you do and damned if you don’t.

Nervous anticipation made her stumble a little as she stepped out of the car to walk toward her obstetrician’s comfortable and well-appointed medical office.

Nikhil, her husband, quickly grabbed her arm to steady her. “Are you all right, Ish?” he asked with a slight frown.

“I’m feeling fine,” she assured him. No point in scaring him by saying she had huge butterflies, the size of bats, flitting around in her tummy. She was jittery enough for both of them.

He kept a protective hand curled around her arm. “Good. Let’s keep it that way.”

The black and white sign outside the single-story brick building was both prominent and impressive. Karnik Maternity Clinic—a proud testimonial to the doctor’s professional success.

Isha was at the clinic to get an ultrasound test done—one of the most brilliant inventions in the medical field since the discovery of antibiotics. It could reveal whether the baby was healthy or not, and the most interesting thing was that one could see the fetus as a three-dimensional image on a computer screen. How fantastic was that!

Twenty minutes later, it bubbled up like a fountain, warm and effervescent—the emotion that could be experienced only by a mother-to-be. Her baby! With damp palms and a racing heart, Isha observed the fuzzy movements on the monitor. The word amazing hardly described it. It was like watching a fantasy show on television.

But the elation quickly dampened when other thoughts began to crowd her brain. Oh no! What if . . .? She said a quick, silent prayer. God, please let it be a boy. Please! If I don’t have a son this time, I’m finished.

Dr. Karnik allowed both Nikhil and Isha to gaze at the image on the screen for several more seconds. Isha looked for the small but significant part of the baby’s anatomy that would establish its gender. So far there was no indication of it on the screen. Was it something that didn’t appear until the fetus grew a little bigger?

The doctor looked at her and Nikhil by turns. “So, do you want to know the child’s sex?”

Isha closed her eyes for an instant. Did she really want to know?

But then she heard Nikhil say, “Um . . . yes.” He sounded hesitant.

“Are you sure?” The doctor gave him a pointed look.

They exchanged brief glances. It was an unspoken agreement that the three of them would keep this confidential.

Deep down, she already knew the answer. The tiny image on the screen was plain enough.

“It’s a girl.”

Silence fell over the examination room as Isha and Nikhil tried to digest the doctor’s casual announcement. Nikhil stood motionless, his gaze fixed on some unknown spot on the wall.

Assuming their silence indicated disappointment, Dr. Karnik said, “It is not the end of the world, you know. We can fix that.”

“Excuse me!” Isha stared at the doctor. “What does that mean?”

“We can easily perform a clinical abortion,” the doctor replied. “You’re only in the beginning of your second trimester, and it is a fairly simple procedure.”

“Fairly simple!” Isha felt like she’d been punched in the stomach.

“Simple, safe, and fast, with today’s techniques,” assured the doctor.

“No!” Glancing at the screen again, she saw the fetus move. “That’s not an option.”

India’s vanishing girls is theme of THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER?

Friday, September 12, 2008 | Category: Book News

To answer your question, Bonnie, yes I put myself in the protagonist’s shoes at all times to be able to put in the right amount of emotion. Since THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER is based in India, it is possible for me to do that.

I had an arranged marriage, but my husband and I are happily married for nearly 35 years. How does this happen? In the culture we were raised in, arranged marriage is the norm. We are programmed to accept it and make a happy life for ourselves. Many of the elements in my book, THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER, come from my own background, except the central theme – Gender-Selective Abortions.

Contemporary India is a country of contradictions – the modern and the archaic exist side by side. While technology and improved education have brought economic progress, the social world for the most part remains untouched. The practice of dowry is still rampant, making female children a burden for a lot of parents. So male children are coveted and girls shunned.

Some 25 years ago, ultrasound technology gave male-child-obsessed countries like china and India a new tool to detect the sex of a child before it was born. Since then selectively aborting female fetuses has become a regular practice for some couples and a lucrative business for a few unscrupulous doctors.

Although I have lived in the U.S. all my adult life, I was born and raised in India, and this seemingly shocking practice of destroying female fetuses in my home country is very troubling to me. I decided to write a romantic story woven around this hot-button issue of female feticide, hoping that it will bring awareness to American readers, and perhaps in some small way contribute towards eradicating it in the not-too-distant future.

Thus came about THE FORBIDDEN DAUGHTER, a novel about a young woman who refuses to abort her unborn daughter and unleashes a bizzare chain of events that turn dangerous. My goal is to not only entertain my readers but also inform them, give them an enjoyable read filled with romance, intrigue, and rich cultural detail.

Win a Signed copy of The Forbidden Daughter

Category: Book Brew w Coffee Crew, Book News, Reader News

Hi All,

Come on over and post a comment on this blog either today or tomorrow. I will be picking one winner at the end of the day tomorrow from amongst the visitors who post a comment.

The Forbidden Daughter is my latest release by Kensington Publishing.  When a sonogram reveals that their second child is another girl, Isha and her husband Nikhil’s lives are forever altered. Their doctor suggests an abortion and her in-laws insist on it. Refusing to comply with their wishes leads to a bizarre chain of events — Isha’s husband becomes the victim of a mysterious murder plot, leaving her alone with one daughter and another on the way. Her only option is to sever her ties to her in-laws and raise her girls as a single mother.

But more danger threatens to rip apart her new life. The stakes become impossibly high — even for a woman as brave as Isha. However, love is waiting around the corner, too…..

A Rugged Coast – Shifting Sands Hide a Mystery

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 | Category: Book News

The Outer Banks is a rugged beach with a rich history and it is an area that is very vulnerable to hurricanes and other storms. Each of my novels includes at least one storm and sometimes I include more than one. Each of the storms in my stories actually happened and real details are included in my novel. Here is a bit of background about the area and how the Cape Hatteras National Seashore came about.

Anyone who has read much non-fiction or history about the Outer Banks of North Carolina should be familiar with David Stick. He has written numerous books about the region. These books tell us why this stretch of the eastern seaboard is called the “Graveyard of the Atlantic”. I highly recommend his books to people who want to learn more about the history of this area.

David Stick’s father Frank, moved to the Outer Banks in 1929 and by the 1930’s he knew Dare County was on the brink of bankruptcy. He wasn’t the kind of man to stand back and watch the area go belly up. He searched for a way to regenerate the Outer Banks and a way to protect and preserve the area.

One of the biggest problems on the Outer Banks was transportation and the difficulty in getting from one area to another. Better roads and more bridges were needed. Travelers were met by sandy paths which led in all directions and many went in circles. Many areas along the lower Outer Banks were isolated from the upper Outer Banks and the mainland. Sporadic and slow ferry service only transported a limited number of people per day.

The barrier islands presented various difficulties. These flat and low-lying sandy islands had no protection from the rough surf that eroded the sand and would wash out any new roads. Over the next few years, several toll bridges were built to provide additional access to the area. However, it was still difficult to reach Hatteras, Buxton and Ocracoke.

In 1933, Frank Stick unveiled his plan. Cape Hatteras would be the focal point of a National Seashore that would extend over 100 miles. It would begin just south of the Virginia state line and extend past Cape Lookout, NC. Several wildlife refuges were located throughout the area.

The first paved highway would extend the full-length of the Seashore and bridges would link the islands for tourists to experience everything the area had to offer. Large sand dunes could protect a paved road. Bridges would provide a better way to link the islands. The plan offered a chance to increase tourism and provide thousands of jobs. One of the first priorities was to build 115 miles of sand dunes to protect the islands and future roads. When the dune line was complete, they built paved roads.

During this time, the United States was experiencing a major economic depression. Untold numbers of people were unemployed in 1932. The people of the United States were desperate for some relief and they needed to find work. New York governor Franklin D. Roosevelt planned to put the masses of unemployed people to work. Thousands of unemployed young men joined the peacetime army to fight the destruction of our natural treasures. 3,000,000 men worked on the projects.

This story focuses on one project: the creation of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore in North Carolina. Before the project could be completed, World War II broke out in Europe. One of the many projects the Corp abandoned was the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Lilah and the Locket starts as the government workers return to complete the project in the 1950’s. A human bone was found around in a sand dune around that time…

If you enjoy a rugged beach and a mystery set along the shore, this story is for you. It’s a cozy mystery and many people have told me that it’s a great beach read. Whether you can get to the beach or not, I’ll share the Outer Banks and Cape Hatteras with you – the gulls are waiting to welcome you.

PS – There will be a sequel to this book and the main characters will return and there is a new character on the way. The Ash Wednesday storm hits the Outer Banks in the early 1960’s and the character’s live will be impacted by the storm and other events that hit too close to home.

Misty Cove, Massachusetts – The Misty Cove Series by Nikki Leigh

Category: Book News

My Misty Cove series is set along the Cape Ann coast of Massachusetts. This area is less familiar than Cape Cod, but it is a beautiful area with a rich history that I had to incorporate into my books. The first book I wrote was a contemporary novel set in my town of Misty Cove. However, my Misty Cove is near the city of Gloucester, Massachusetts. While I was writing the book, I created family history for my heroine. Once that book was completed, it dawned on me that I should write the family history in much more detail and I share that story in Widow’s Walk and Lady Lightkeeper. (There will be another book in that series which includes Civil War history in Wilmington, NC.)

Let me share some of the details about this fascinating area and I think you will see what it works so well for my “Coastal Suspense with a Touch of Romance”. Widow’s Walk is set in the 1840’s and 1850’s. Lady Lightkeeper begins several months after the end of Widow’s Walk and is set in the 1850’s and 1860’s.

Cape Ann has a lot of history and tranquil beauty without the tourists. There’s a rich history of hard working and hard living people. Misty Cove, like neighboring Gloucester and Rockport are fishing towns. Fishing isn’t a peaceful pastime. Commercial fishing is hard work and requires separation from loved ones. There’s a sense of danger involved in it. Storms have hit this coast for centuries and led to a need for lighthouses and lifesaving stations. There is a lighthouse on Eastern Point and I call it the Stormy View lighthouse in my books. The family members in my books were lighthouse keepers for generations and the books give you insights into what this meant to the family. While the men in the family protected the sailors and fishermen who traveled along our coast, the women were behind the scenes protecting the injured. Some rescues took long hours to search for the survivors.

As with most small New England towns, Misty Cove people hold strong views about most everything. Our friends and neighbors stand up for what they think is right. Misty Cove has the look of a quaint centuries old fishing village. There are piers by the water and all manor of fishing boats and paraphernalia.

The winters in New England can be bad. The water looks intriguing with snow falling against it and with the snow piled on the boats. Many fishing shacks have been covered with snow during a blizzard. A big blizzard shuts things down in Misty Cove. This is why its good to pay close attention to the weather forecast and stock up on necessities before a storm hits the coast.

The soft sounds of the bird’s songs fill the air as they soar off the coast. The pelicans fly along the edge of the water and dip down from time to time to pick up their latest meal. The gulls love to see the children because they usually bring food of some kind. They fish for their own meals sometimes, but the children supplement that with bread crumbs. It’s a strange diet, but they love it. Life is different here, but that’s the way Misty Cove residents like it.

Come along with me and we’ll visit the Cape Ann coast of Massachusetts and you will meet the rugged and strong residents of Misty Cove. You will share their joys, their fears, their disappointments and much more. You’ll even learn some Massachusetts, lighthouse and life saving history on your trip.

In my next post I’ll share insights about the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. This is one of my favorite areas and its great to get a chance to share this rugged area with readers.

Transporting Readers to Another Place and Time Through A Well Crafted Setting

Category: Book News

I’ve loved books since I was old enough to read. I was one of those people that hid a flashlight so that I could read after I was told to turn off my lights and go to sleep. It was tough since my parents aren’t the type to read just for enjoyment, but my grandmother loved to read and she always understood when my nose was stuck in a book – because her nose was in a book too.

One of the great thing about books – and there are many – is that the reader can be transported to any place and time through the pages of a book. If I want to visit any area in any time period, I just need to find a well written book set in that time and place. What other “trip” can you take for so little money?

As a kid, I dreamed of being a published author. In 2006, I realized that dream when my first books were published. As an author, I know how much I enjoy a well crafted setting in a well written book. On the other hand, I know how much I dislike reading a book when the author didn’t do sufficient research.

This is an example – there is a very well known author that I’ve read for years. One of the books was set on Cape Cod and it had a vivid description of a house on a high cliff overlooking the crashing waves and a winding ocean front road that lead to this interesting centuries old house. When I got a chance to visit Cape Cod, I decided to look for the area. I discovered the town isn’t on the ocean side of Cape Cod and there are no tall cliffs? These were details that could’ve been changed easily to make it accurate, but the author didn’t take the time.

One of the things I strive for in my novels is to give the reader an authentic view of the areas where my novels are set. This does require more time and effort, but “making it real” is such a great thing to do for the readers and for myself. I read books set in all sorts of times and places, but so far, my novels have been set in locations that I have visited. I’ll share details about the settings for both fiction series I’m working on a little later on. I hope you will come back to read more.

Blue Smoke and Murder

By Elizabeth Lowell

Jill Breck was just doing her job as a river guide when she saved the life of Lane Faroe, son of two of St. Kilda Consulting’s premier operators. But when a string of ominous events—including a mysterious fire that kills her great-aunt and a furor in the Western art world raised by a dozen Breck family paintings—culminates in a threat to her life, Jill reluctantly calls in a favor.

Zach Balfour works part-time as a consultant for St. Kilda. His expertise is gathering and analyzing information from unlikely and often dangerous sources. Though he’s got the skills to be a highly effective bodyguard, being a bullet catcher isn’t his preferred way to spend time.

Protecting Jill will take him into familiar territory—among a strange, savagely competitive bunch of collectors who’ll do anything to stay at the top. But Jill is in deeper waters than she’s ever known; as she soon discovers, the perils of running wild rivers are tame compared with the hidden dangers in the high-stakes game of art collecting.

From the cozy rooms of the Breck homestead cabin to the cold multimillion-dollar galleries of the Western art circuit, Zach and Jill must race against time to unmask a ruthless killer hidden in a blue smoke of money, threats, lies, and death. . . .
